Boasting about your wealth on Facebook. Why?

Why are people so keen for others to see how many expensive material possessions they have.

Is this a 'thing' now?

Are they boasting, or sharing pictures with people who are supposed to be happy for them?

I've got family who do both, on and off FB.

Oh and I'm in my 40's, they used to do it in RL, so it's always been a 'thing', it's just a lot more people have disposable income and we're living in a more consumer society.

But I'm happy for people that I know, who are just sharing, as you do, with friends/family.

How is posting about your wealth any different from hosting about your holiday, shopping, new car, abs etc

That sort of thing happens on Facebook all the time.

General Facebook behaviour as far as I know.

If you don't like it unfriend the person.

The only people I have who boast of Facebook, do so because they are associated with a company and its part of making the company look successful.

I know lots of business people who have grown their brands, in part, by making themselves look successful.

I can understand sharing those pics with family.

But do people who are struggling, and there are a lot who are struggling, really needs to see that you have so much money coming out your ears you don't know what to spend it on.

They should adjust their settings.

Then it is up to those people to remove themselves as friends. Someone will always be In a worse off position, it doesn't mean that others need to stop loving their lives so as to not 'offend'

YANBU. Facebook gives your FB friends a "one size fits all" picture of you. It's not personalised to the recipient in the way an email or phone call would be, and so there's no sensitivity to the other person's circumstances.

People can post about whatever they want on Facebook. Everyone else had an 'unfriend' or 'unfollow' option if they don't want to see it. There are many, many people better off than me. Couldn't care less what they post about.

Bragging is an unattractive behaviour regardless of where it's done. I would choose to ignore these people in real life too.
