Browsing antiques: wee in a jug.

Whilst browsing antiques on a rare outing without kids I was drawn to a small terracotta jug, which I lifted from a high shelf to casually inspect the glaze. On second thoughts, I replaced it but in so doing was splashed with its contents. It struck home that this was putrid, and was in fact old urine.
AIBU? wee in a jug?

Wtf????

LittleBoyBlues Mon 25-Jan-16 21:24:14

Exactly

elephantoverthehill Mon 25-Jan-16 21:24:54

Sell it on 'Antiques Road Show'. Old jug +old piss = double your money.

Hassled Mon 25-Jan-16 21:26:49

It was on a high shelf? So - no-one would have placed it there with piss in. At least no-one sane. The only logical deduction is that it was placed there empty, and then pissed in from above. Did you look up? Were there rafters? Any sign of a trap door in the ceiling?

LittleBoyBlues Mon 25-Jan-16 21:26:59

I didn't want to turn it over to find the price.

Old rancid water from when the jug had flowers in might be slightly less unlikely...

If it was on or near the floor a small boy might have weed in it?

iklboo Mon 25-Jan-16 21:30:11

I mean - and then someone moved it to a higher shelf without checking or emptying it?

It was urine. Confirmed by horrified co-shopper & bewildered man looking after shop. Didn't think to investigate ceiling void.

I'm going to need a little more context here. I can promise you that in the antiques centre I work in something like that would never have been allowed through the door! Are you sure it was wee and not old flower water?

LittleBoyBlues Mon 25-Jan-16 21:37:47

Sure. Reeeeaaallly sure. Bright yellow. Stink like a nightclub urinal. No question.

Sunbeam18 Mon 25-Jan-16 21:40:36

Are you being unreasonable about what?

Gobbolino6 Mon 25-Jan-16 21:50:11

Bewildered, was he? A likely tale...

I used to work in an antiques centre .. we found all sorts at the end of the day upon closing the shop and turning off the lights. These include a pair of ladies knickers, sweet wrappers, old used hankies, half cups of coffee, old hairbrushes oh.. and the odd shoe. Some of the customers were just unbelievable, it wouldn't surprise me if someone got caught short and just used the nearest pot!

Antique wee. Wow.

Could have been Henry VIII's.

Really, there is no comparison between the smell of urine and that of stagnant vase water. Urine has that unmistakeable ammoniacal odour. SVW is rank in its own mouldering stems and leaves disintegrating in water way, but it smells completely different to stale piss.
