To steal Reddits AMA for MN

For those that don't know AMA is Ask Me Anything.

So every week or so we could have a new AMA. People could nominate themselves for the AMA and start a thread and any interested people could go ask them questions.

They are generally about something that sets you apart from the rest so "I'm a funeral director AMA" "I've been on a TV game show AMA" "I spent 2 years in prison AMA"

It can be anything you think people might be interested in reading about. Always amazed at tge diversity and experiences of people on MN, so thought this could be fun.

Anyone want to nominate themselves?

VertigoNun Sat 23-Jan-16 01:21:58

Nope. grin

Pantone363 Sat 23-Jan-16 01:25:07

Fucker grin

Nothing interesting you think we might like to read about? Ever climbed Everest? Got the worlds largest collection of thimbles from the Isle Of Wight? World class surgeon saving babies lives in the third world?

VertigoNun Sat 23-Jan-16 01:30:17

I have experiences, no fucker will believe it.

grin

You start!

AcrossthePond55 Sat 23-Jan-16 02:37:23

I think it's a good idea. I enjoy the AMAs on Reddit.

Unfortunately I'm a boring fucker.

"Hi, I've lived an average life. AMA!!"

Pantone363 Sat 23-Jan-16 10:49:11

You can do an average life AMA!

VertigoNun Sat 23-Jan-16 10:51:02

Ok I will bite.

I am a lone parent. A woman. Disabled. Parent to disabled children. Ask me anything!

hesterton Sat 23-Jan-16 10:51:51

What a great idea!

I'm nothing interesting enough though to be able to offer startlingly fascinating new information or advice.

There must be a chimney sweep on here somewhere! !?

hesterton Sat 23-Jan-16 10:53:35

Vertigo How do you cope with doctor appointments when they run over collecting dc from school time? Do you have a good ñetwork of friends?

VertigoNun Sat 23-Jan-16 10:58:37

I no longer have a good network of friends.

We rarely see Dr's anymore. I found appointments very challenging as did my children. I had to have my disabled teen make their own way home after school when I tool the other to hospital. This caused upset and exasperation of the disability of the non hospital attending child.

Once I had to do the same hospital visit a week later with the second child and the first child suffered.

Same dr, same problem same hospital. They wouldn't give me appointments at the same time. It was a hundred mile journey.

CarbonEmittingPenguin Sat 23-Jan-16 11:03:55

There was a thread in Chat not too long ago when people said what their job was and people asked them about it. I second that it sounds like a great idea.

hesterton Sat 23-Jan-16 11:09:04

Vertigo That sounds so hsrd. If you were prime minister what one thing would you do to make life more bearable for people in your situation?

VertigoNun Sat 23-Jan-16 11:21:44

That is going to take time. I will get back to you on that after I give it though.

I think a AMA would be inviting Trolls in by the bus load, they'd be falling over themselves making up outrageous crap grin

WorraLiberty Sat 23-Jan-16 11:28:50

This would work better on a forum where name changing isn't allowed.

I'm a cynical old bag, so I envisage bullshit from some with no posting history grin

WorraLiberty Sat 23-Jan-16 11:29:38

Whoops! X posted with Durham there.

That'll teach me not to pay the milkman mid post blush

NeedACleverNN Sat 23-Jan-16 11:32:07

I'm the queen of your imagination and I crap rainbows full of gold..AMA wink

It's a good idea but not sure it would work on an anonymous forum. Would be interesting to see though

TheHouseOnTheLane Sat 23-Jan-16 11:33:23

Well YANBU. I love a good AMA but the thing is that reddit has a LOT more users....and many celebs go on Reddit to do AMA's and I suppose MN does do Q&A sessions already with celebs.

But it might be amusing. AMA requests would be fun. And I bet they'd get all passive aggressive here.

"AMA request; women who think it's normal to not offer children dinner on playdates"

and

AMA request "Babysitters who think it's ok to eat four steaks as a snack"

Pantone363 Sat 23-Jan-16 11:58:39

Usually on Reddit OP shows some kind of proof (obviously with personal info redacted).

VertigoNun that's a good one. Lots of people would be interested to hear that!

Pantone363 Sat 23-Jan-16 11:59:40

Arf at passive aggressive AMA requests

Pantone363 Sat 23-Jan-16 12:00:59

Anybody want to offer themselves up...don't be shy wink

I've only got "I'm a SAHM, AMA"

Pantone363 Sat 23-Jan-16 12:03:30

Thing is Reddits AMAs are very male centric. would be good to see some from women!

Anniegetyourgun Sat 23-Jan-16 12:27:21

We had that lovely young fellow who offered his services telling the poor nervous mums how to cope with IT/the Internet... he got a proper roasting. I think it's in Classics.

Grilledaubergines Sat 23-Jan-16 12:32:10

Single parent, work full time in the legal profession, love spinach, hate parsnips. AMA.

TheHouseOnTheLane Sat 23-Jan-16 12:45:30

I'm a lazy bitch

AMA

I'll post proof as photos of me in pyjamas for the last 7 days.
