To think that this comment could have been worded differently?

So I'm rubbing my hands with glee over this, as it's the first opportunity I've ever had to post in AIBU. Granted it's incredibly petty but we're both very keen to know who's in the right.

DP and I are getting ready for a (very rare) night out. I am wearing a navy blue dress but think it might be chilly where we're going so I try on a little black jacket and ask him what he thinks. DP replies "I'm sure I remember you, or someone like you saying black and blue don't go."

I make a hmm face and say "how d'you mean someone like me?", and he replies "dunno, you or some other woman"

Now I'm not suddenly wracked with jealousy or self-doubt or anything, but I do think that he could have conceded that it sounded a little bit dodgy and worded it slightly differently.

So there you go - a very minor AIBU, but then again it seems like lots of them are. Please settle our debate!

I don't think it would bother me! He probably just meant he can't remember which woman he'd heard say it.

Goingtobeawesome Fri 22-Jan-16 18:47:15

I think you're making this into something when it is nothing.

I remember wearing black and blue check trousers at 15 so they do go grin.

Black and blue go. It's blue and green that don't. Actually brown and blue as well.
I dunno you or some other woman. Classic. confused

SweetBabyJebus Fri 22-Jan-16 18:47:39

YABU. Sorry.

Only1scoop Fri 22-Jan-16 18:49:18

'Or someone like you' grin

Sorry I think that's quite funny Op

TattyDevine Fri 22-Jan-16 18:51:27

Its fine, don't let it ruin your evening. Re black blue green etc, depends on the tone and saturation of the colour.

Id let it slide...

RudeElf Fri 22-Jan-16 18:52:41

YABU. He means a woman. Not another woman. grin

Wishful80sMontage Fri 22-Jan-16 18:53:23

'Someone like you' hmm Id have the hump over this too

TurnOffTheTv Fri 22-Jan-16 18:54:19

Don't spoil the night. I wouldn't have thought twice about it.

IronMaggie Fri 22-Jan-16 18:56:27

Haha I'm looking at the responses and only reading out the ones that agree with me. Classic AIBU!

But ok ok, I'll apologise quietly and let it go. Have a good evening all!

PalcumTowder Fri 22-Jan-16 18:56:31

YABU. Sorry. I wouldn't have thought twice about that!

Costacoffeeplease Fri 22-Jan-16 18:57:41

I'd have laughed and then I'd rip the piss out of him at any and every opportunity for months weeks

Zippidydoodah Fri 22-Jan-16 18:57:44

Nope, black jacket and navy dress don't go at all!!

<misses the point>

Darvany Fri 22-Jan-16 18:58:13

Perhaps he's been reading S&B.

Brown and blue do go, incidentally. Think of how the sky doesn't jar against mountains / dark sandy beaches.

Someone tried to tell me that green and brown don't go once. Had they never seen... a tree?

SanityClause Fri 22-Jan-16 18:59:58

Tell him navy blue and black is very Parisian.

It was probably his mum that told him they didn't go.

Remind him that your not his mum.

Gatehouse77 Fri 22-Jan-16 19:00:04

My DH says things like that, unintentionally. We usually just laugh about it.

As for black and blue, I was told it's a no-no because you look like a bruise!!

Queenbean Fri 22-Jan-16 19:01:10

Are you sure it your outfit was black and blue? It wasn't cream and white?

PirateSmile Fri 22-Jan-16 19:02:09

Are you sure it's black and blue, not white and gold?

HortonWho Fri 22-Jan-16 19:02:24

Blue / green look fantastic together

PirateSmile Fri 22-Jan-16 19:02:39

HortonWho Fri 22-Jan-16 19:05:20

BonitaFangita Fri 22-Jan-16 19:21:16

OP I've got that Adele song stuck in my head now! For that reason alone YABU.
I'm sure he didn't mean anything by it, hope you both have a great night wine

RonniePickering Fri 22-Jan-16 19:27:55
