He opens a pistachio, discards half the shell in the same bowl, then sucks the nut out of the other half, then discards this half in the same bowl

This forth date isn't going well.

Pistachiocray Tue 19-Jan-16 22:00:03

This is the height of uncouthness right,?

No need to suck and its getting very difficult to find a non eaten nut in the bowel of shells

GinandJag Tue 19-Jan-16 22:01:28

You didn't provide a bowl for the waste? What did you expect him to do?

Hiddlesnake Tue 19-Jan-16 22:01:53

LTB

Pistachiocray Tue 19-Jan-16 22:02:05

The bowl is on a plate, the shells go on the plate.

ghostyslovesheep Tue 19-Jan-16 22:02:31

Kill him

EastMidsMummy Tue 19-Jan-16 22:03:17

Not when he's spending it with a germophobic.

OurBlanche Tue 19-Jan-16 22:07:05

My Dad (lives in Spain) does that with olive stones. Sucks them free of olive flesh and pops the stone back in the bowl of olives... not the plate it is sat on.

Drives me absolutely mad. But then again, he gets what he wants - all the bleeding olives!!!

Zinni Tue 19-Jan-16 22:16:34

Provide a 2nd bowl to put the empty shells in like most people do, and empty it daily. Why would you want them around the edge of the bowl on the plate?

If they're roasted in lemon-juice and salt it's normal to suck the shells.

Fourth

Shirkingfromhome Tue 19-Jan-16 22:24:11

Ugh. That's a flirting with the boundaries of double-dipping. Why isn't there a bowl for empties?

Clawdy Tue 19-Jan-16 22:28:18

The olive thing sounds yukky. ...like someone I saw at a party dipping a breadstick into hummous, biting off the end, and dipping the bitten end back into the hummous!

OurBlanche Tue 19-Jan-16 22:29:07

So the traditional one piece bowl and plate things are wrong then?

No... there is a place for the empties, it's bleeding obvious, just not a second bowl. The place for sucked olive stones, salted pistachio shells, etc is in the plate under the bowl.

GinandJag Tue 19-Jan-16 22:34:33

There are special pistachio bowls with their own saucers? I just use a cereal bowl, lol, or if being posh, a glass ice cream bowl (plus one for the empties).

robindeer Tue 19-Jan-16 22:35:55

Urgh.

If this was me there would not be a fifth date. Good job he revealed himself as the monster he clearly is early on.

SonyaAtTheSamovar Tue 19-Jan-16 22:36:47

This didn't happen. wink

Or I should say I don't wish to believe it could happen!

Grapejuicerocks Wed 20-Jan-16 00:27:44

I do that - but I wouldn't have done on such an early date and I wouldn't if somebody was sharing my bowl with me.

echt Wed 20-Jan-16 06:33:32

Ghosty got there first. Bleuurgh.

HelpfulChap Wed 20-Jan-16 06:50:42

Nasty. He needs house training.

Bunbaker Wed 20-Jan-16 06:59:50

Have you actually pointed out to him that the plate is for the shells?

Isn't it usual to provide another bowl for the empties instead, and make it obvious that that is what it is for?

WipsGlitter Wed 20-Jan-16 07:13:35

Scoop all the shells out and put them on the plate.

Sucking is ok, they're tricky to get out.

TheMasterMurderedMargarita Wed 20-Jan-16 07:19:14

Dear Date,
Your nut sucking is quickly eroding any desire to exchange further bodily fluids with you. Please desist.

Remember when you used to be able to buy pistachios that were dyed red? They'd make your fingers all pink.

TaliZorahVasNormandy Wed 20-Jan-16 10:01:44

That is very close to double dipping. I saw an experiment on double dipping, the amount of germs that get in the dip are disgusting.

Guiltypleasures001 Wed 20-Jan-16 10:10:53

If he's making noises as well with the sucking I would be feeling very stabby, I would test him with something simmering on the hob, if he stirs it then bin him off. grin
