To throw water on my cat

Cat went out before - opened the door, barged it's way out. Cat is now howling to come in. I open the door to let cat in, cat runs off. I go back in, cat starts yowling.

And repeat.

It's disturbing me, it's probably disturbing the neighbours. WIBU to throw water on him?

What if the cat doesn't come back?

Is this usual behaviour?

WorraLiberty Sat 16-Jan-16 14:01:23

Tempt him in with some food?

Do you have a catflap? Might be a good idea to get one...

Paintedhandprints Sat 16-Jan-16 14:02:51

Maybe you should follow the cat? Young Timmy may be stuck down a well.

Isn't this just normal cat behaviour? My cat mithers to go out then changes her mind when she realises it's freezing. 10 minutes later she wants to go out again.

Cats can be annoying yet adorable knobheads.

KoalaDownUnder Sat 16-Jan-16 14:07:29

Can you get a cat flap?

Your username made me laugh. grin

ghostyslovesheep Sat 16-Jan-16 14:09:21

Could be worse - our older cat has been missing for 24 hours - she never goes out for longer than 10 mins normally

we have roamed the estate shouting her name ...

turns out she was shut in the coat cupboard - which gave her a bad tummy through stress - which was nice

idiot didn't meow once!

TheCatsMeow Sat 16-Jan-16 14:12:06

I have two doors into my garden. My cats go out one open door and then wail at the closed one until I get up and open it. Then they go straight out the other door and do it again.

What would water do apart from get the cat wet and cross? It's unlikely to stop its little routine.

gamerchick Sat 16-Jan-16 14:18:10

It's your fault for not turning the heat up on demand.

HermioneJeanGranger Sat 16-Jan-16 14:18:46

Get a catflap.

Fuckoffcat Sat 16-Jan-16 14:30:50

Tried food, tried dreamies, but silly cat keeps running off.

pigsDOfly Sat 16-Jan-16 14:31:26

Throwing water on him won't teach him to change his behaviour, all cats do this. They learn it at their mothers' knees.

All you'll do is frighten him and make him wet and cold.

A cat flap is definitely the way to go. I wouldn't have a cat without one.

Janeymoo50 Sat 16-Jan-16 14:36:51

Why would you want to frighten and upset your cat? He's playing silly beggars (is he neutered?).

Fuckoffcat Sat 16-Jan-16 14:37:25

He is. He wouldn't use a cat flap and I can't install one - there's an upstairs to the property.

hefzi Sat 16-Jan-16 14:47:47

Have you followed the cat? I second the idea of Little Jimmy down a well - that's what always happened in the children's books I grew up with...

TheHiphopopotamus Sat 16-Jan-16 15:01:07

My cats do this too. They want you to be aware they're ignoring you...otherwise what's the point? My cats will wake me up so they can ignore me better :/

TheCatsMeow Sat 16-Jan-16 15:46:24

Oh do follow the cat, mine showed me my mum was locked out once!
