Aibu to really REALLY hate the snow?

Argh its just started here (Midlands) although I don't think it will stick. This is more about heavier snowfalls. It causes so much disruption in this country with regards to traffic conditions and school closures. Dh and I both work ft so a school closure means we either have to rely on my elderly parents or one of us has to take a day off and risk losing our jobs (both agency employees).
Then there is the danger of ungritted roads and tyres that don't cope with the snow very well, last year a journey that normally takes 10 mins took me over 2 hours, traffic just at a complete standstill, and its unsafe for pedestrians, particularly those who are unsteady on their feet to begin with.

I agree a fresh snowfall looks magical, until the cars have been through it a few times and then its just brown slush. It's cold and wet and never bloody happens on a Sunday when dh can be persuaded to take the kids sledging while I cook a roast (piss about on t'interweb)

So aibu? Or just a miserable twat. :)

Yanbu I am almost phobic about snow, I hate it and have been twitchy all week worrying about it.

I have no problem with it, if I don't have to do more than a short journey on foot in it, but invariably it means nightmare, dangerous car journeys trying to get to work. Hate it.

Used to like it.Then few years back journey from work that usually take 30 mins took 4 hours and quickly changed my mind.Its nice at first till have to go somewhere or goes slushy/icey so nope agree with you

Yes I've been cold all day at work. At one point I had my coat and scarf on. Must have been psychological though as everyone else was fine.

it doesn't impact on me much now as don't work and DS is able to get himself to college, or they have a snow day.

But I used to really hate driving in snow. Especially when it was an unexpected downfall and we would get the call from nursery / school that they were closing and had to leave work, drive on ungritted, busy roads.

There isn't enough forward planning IMO. The councils will grit, but not always sufficiently or on the correct days.

I like the snow, but only when I can make the decision to go out in it or not.

I don't like the initial flurry of snow, especially if it is within my working week as everything is unprepared and we don't get it regularly enough to be prepared, once the snow has settled and everyone has got accustomed to it, I quite like it, and enjoy further snow.

Yes if it could snow on Friday night, just when we're all back, then stay snowy for Saturday but melt completely during Sunday that would be great. But it never happens like that.

I love the snow when im in doors with a hot chocolate and a roaring fire.
I fecking hate the snow if i have to step outside or am waiting for parcels.

Our snow, this morning led to loads of accidents, played havoc with the buses (I had to cancel an appointment because I couldn't get there) interfered with the power supply (power cut in the area which tripped our switch and has resulted in brownouts since then - also knocked out the water pump to our village, leaving us with a trickle of water)
DS1 had to come home from school early because his transport couldn't get home, first thing, so didn't want to risk being stranded in the evening, once it got dark again.
And the pretty white pavements are now lumpy ice. Walking with a blizzard in my face and glasses steaming up was stressful enough, this morning. It's going to be a pig tomorrow morning.

For the few days we get snow I do understand it doesn't make financial sense to have snow ploughs and chains on tyres as it does in,say,Canada for example, but even a couple of inches makes things so much more difficult here.

P.s I don't mind it so much if I have a fridge full and nowhere to go. I have a theory the sahps all love it, the wohps all hate it :)

I hate it, I cant walk on it at all. I'm sick of people trying to explain how to walk on snow, I know. Walk flat footed. Well it doesnt work for me which is why I have to wear an old lady beany with a fake fur band, so when I go down I dont give myself a brain injury.

Too many people are forced to try and struggle in, it's absolutely daft. My dh (teacher) set off early to go in to be sure he got there - got half way there to hear school closed (20 minutes away) - then they closed the road and diverted folk on to a different one - got home 7 hours later - 7 hours of wasting petrol, 7 hours of clogging the roads.

Surrounded by all the thousands of other idiots who tried.

Just stay at home unless you actually have to go in (emergency service/king of the world)

I hate it, too. I don't really even think it looks pretty, I think it just looks bleak and miserable.

Unsafe walking, unsafe driving, elderly and vulnerable people at risk, general travel disruption, higher heating bills which many can't afford, etc, etc, etc. What is there to like about it unless you're a small child with no bigger responsibility than to build a snowman?

Knobbly I have boots with chains on I keep in the boot of my car. I do enjoy walking up and down our road scattering salt when it's icy.

Sooty, the snow up here had pretty much gone by lunchtime (on the roads anyway). Where was your meeting?

I didn't mind driving in snow in Germany or Bavaria - because we used chains and everyone knew what to do.

I HATE driving in snow in the UK because hardly anyone has any experience and no-one keeps chains in the boot.

Unfortunately I also hate walking in the snow, because my crappy ankle locks up and I fall over - a lot.

DD is desperate for it to snow - I'm dreading it.

My DD is also desperate for snow, mostly so she can have a day off school.
DS not so much, he wants the day off school but he stays indoors anyway.he hates it as much as I do.
