AIBU?

To not move on the train?

I was on a very busy packed train with my friend and DS. DS was in a sling, we had the buggy and I was feeding him. We were standing by the doors (no one offered us seats!) trying to feed a screaming baby, penned in by others standing. There was no where we could go.

People tried to push past us to get out the doors and nearly sent DS flying. I firmly asked if they could use one of the other doors and I literally couldn't go anywhere. Cue mutterings and dirty looks!

We couldn't collapse the pram there wasn't room to do and as no one had offered a seat we couldn't move anywhere! WIBU to ask them to use another door?

Was there another door withing very easy reach? Like across the carriage or would they have to go through the entire seated part of the carriage?

They had to walk through a carriage

Yabu, they would have had to go through the carriage to another door to get off the train. And very unreasonable not to have folded the buggy.

On the one hand, it's a shame that no-one offered you a seat.

On the other, for a busy train, the etiquette is to collapse the pram before you get on, and you're not allowed to block the doors.

For busy peak time trains, there's no time to get from one door down to another, you queue for one when the train is pulling in.

So, you were sort of unreasonable.

You should have folded the buggy before getting on the train. And Why did you have a buggy anyway if ds was in a sling?

I would have asked loudly for a seat to feed crying baby.
And collapse buggy before you get on train

How am I supposed to fold the buggy when I have no room to do so because there are people there so don't have the room to take off the bags and fold it down?

Presumably on a very busy train, there was people standing down the carriage, so that's not actually possible?

In that case, YABU.

Hm tricky. I think you were slightly. If the train is really busy it's sometimes very difficult to make your way to the other end before the doors close. I tend to think that if you're standing by the doors you accept that you will need to move to let people off. I could understand you finding it difficult but could your friend not have stepped out onto the platform with the pram to let people by and then got back on again? That's what I've done in the past.

Had I seen you I would have probably tried to get out further down the carriage but sometimes it's just not possible. I just think that if you commit to getting on a crowded train in rush hour you commit to the joint effort of getting home however you can.

Shit that no one let you sit down though.

YABVU , for all the reasons already stated ie unfolded buggy .

TheCatsMeow · 12/01/2016 12:38

you're not allowed to block the doors.

But people with bikes and luggage do this all the time. They kept piling on which is what penned me in.

And I had a buggy and a sling because he's nearly 18lb and my back gets sore after a while...

YABU.

Making people walk through an entire carriage is completely unreasonable. I don't believe that there was literally no way you could have moved to let them past.

Yabu. The train doesnt stop long enough to get to the next door, on top of that with others standing in the carriage you couldnt of. You shouldnt have been blocking the door full stop. Fold the buggy before getting on the train and ask someone if you can have a seat next time.

People weren't blocking the aisles. Just the doors.

YABU in several ways. Collapse your buggy before you get on the train next time, and talk to yourself "firmly" for trying to make the world revolve around you.

Why could you not fold the buggy before you got on the train?

Do trains have priority seats, like the tube? I would have asked someone in a priority seat for their seat (if they didn't need it more).

You fold buggy before getting on train. An unfolded buggy has no place on a train at rush hour.

HTKB · 12/01/2016 12:42

In that case you really were U. I can't imagine I would have walked back down the carriage with luggage and my own toddler and heavily pg (just my circs). We would have had a row!

I've been you before and blocked the train doors. When they open you go out onto the platform, let people off then get back on. In fact you could have quickly stepped onto platform and collapsed buggy at first stop. Why didn't you?

If a ticket man had come down and seen a blocked door be in suitcases, buggy, bike he would have got you to move. I travel daily on a train and see this! You cant block the door.

Yes most trains have priority seats.

You unfold before you get on the train. You can't just block a train, thats not on.

Who wants to bet this is one of those threads where the OP wanted a rant and sympathy, not to know ISWBU, and she's going to refuse to accept she was U no matter how many people say it?

If people were not in the aisles then you did have room to collapse the buggy! Yabu here.
