to constantly feel on MN like I either have the 'wrong' opinion or it is not worth a fig!?!

Exactly that. I am probably being over sensitive, in fact I'm sure many of you will tell me I am, but every time I comment on a tread I get shot down in flames. Tbh it is getting to me a bit! I used to love MN, it was a haven when I had a bad day, but I daren't post much any more as I always seem to end up either with the 'wrong' opinion or made to feel like it doesn't matter if I have a difference of opinion because I'm clearly out of order and wrong to boot!
Just typed up a reply on another thread and deleted it as I KNOW what reaction I will get and it is never pleasant. It is like being back in the school room! I know I am probably being U as I get a little sensitive with people opinions (was very badly bullied at school and never really got over the need to please.) but can't help the way I feel. Just a bit sad and down about it actually.

Not all of you, obviously. There are some lovely people on her, and people I have a lot of respect for, even if we don't even agree.

AIBU was never a gentle place, but there do seem to be even more ignorant tossers out there than ever before. I'll avoid the rant about Penis Beaker etc etc... smile

I'm more likely to post in Chat these days. Still a lot of tossers there too, but at least you can pull them up on it more easily!

CaptainCrunch Sun 10-Jan-16 18:12:27

There's definitely a herd mentality and opinions expressed I've never encountered in real life.

ghostyslovesheep Sun 10-Jan-16 18:13:43

yabu - it was one thread - a few people disagreed with you - no one was rude to you - this thread seems like a sulky foot stamp!

PurpleDaisies Sun 10-Jan-16 18:15:28

I think everyone's felt like that at some point. Often the most innocuous threads take a really weird aggressive tone if the first posters show up and set that sort of tone. Try not to take it personally-some people just like stirring up drama.

Chat is friendlier than AIBU.

CaptainCrunch Sun 10-Jan-16 18:16:26

I'm not aware of the thread the op is referring to, mine was just a general response.

goodnightdarthvader1 Sun 10-Jan-16 18:16:31

I often disagree with people. Some posters on MN seem soft, illogical, or plain bonkers. I'm still convinced I'm right!

usual Sun 10-Jan-16 18:18:59

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

horseygeorgie Sun 10-Jan-16 18:19:21

Which thread are you referring to ghosty? Actually your comment seems to make my point entirely! Since when is it ok to dismiss someone's feelings as a 'sulky foot stomp'!? I actually do regard that as being rude. Would you do that in real life?

Thank you to everyone who has words of support. I know AIBU is a nest of vipers sometimes!

horseygeorgie Sun 10-Jan-16 18:20:14

And ghosty, I have been a member on her for 5 years. I would not be so silly as to post a 'sulky foot stonp' over 1 thread.

Twitterqueen Sun 10-Jan-16 18:22:07

You're talking absolute rubbish OP and your opinion really isn't worth a fig.

Now...

Exactly what makes my opinion more valuable than yours? Nothing. Read, digest, and then dismiss or accept or consider or argue. That's what AIBU is all about.

I think you are being somewhat over-sensitive but have some flowers anyway.

[Rider: there are some absolute dickheads on here at the moment, who really should just shut the fuck up]

horseygeorgie Sun 10-Jan-16 18:22:31

I do hope there isn't a hide box as mine must be full by now! grin!

I think the difficulty is that I am on MN alot, but actually don't post that muct unless I feel I have something valid to say. Then when I do I generally get a bad reaction!

Am I some kind of vicious harpy?!

Missyaggravation Sun 10-Jan-16 18:22:48

I wouldn't worry about randomers disagreeing with you, is odd on mumsnet and has been stated before, but the first few replies seem to set the tone of the thread. Often the first few replies will be randomly harsh and then sense will prevail later. I used to post on a thread and then never look at it again in case someone was mean to me grin. Give a lot less fucks now.

horseygeorgie Sun 10-Jan-16 18:25:35

Thats a good tip missyaggravation. May try that!

CaptainCrunch Sun 10-Jan-16 18:26:07

The first few responses seem to dictate the direction of the thread and few are brave enough to offer an opposing view.

There are a lot of keyboard warriors on here who obviously enjoy being a nasty cunt with no reprisals.

In rl they'd get their heads to play with if they said half the stuff they do on here.

ghostyslovesheep Sun 10-Jan-16 18:26:17

well a quick name search (which I think is allowed given you are cryptically moaning about being picked on) shows only one recent thread in which anyone disagreed with you

I didn't post on that thread

I don't know you from Adam (despite also being a member for 5+ years)

I was answering your OP when you asked 'AIBU'

I have not been rude or unkind or aggressive - so I am not sure how I prove your point

I am disagreeing with you based on what I have read

insancerre Sun 10-Jan-16 18:26:30

I know what you mean
Posters do like to disagree just for the sake of disagreeing
I think it helps them feel a little but more important

Sparklingbrook Sun 10-Jan-16 18:29:02

every time I comment on a tread I get shot down in flames

What topics are you posting in and what about?

Pancakeflipper Sun 10-Jan-16 18:30:54

There's RL and then there's MNworld. Both lived in by humans but for some reason if you give a keyboard to someone humans they turn extreme.

Thankfully there's enough humans who are not yet afflicted by this condition (though it appears to be spreading).

Chin up. Post in the untouched by MNextremist parts (not telling you where but obviously the more 'boring' areas of the board.

BIWI Sun 10-Jan-16 18:31:06

If you have an opinion on something, that you're prepared to post about, then presumably you can argue your corner?

It's inevitable that people aren't going to agree with you - it's such a big site and there are so many different people with different views, it would be amazing if everyone did agree!

When you say a flaming, what exactly do you mean? If you're being attacked, then you need to report such posts to MNHQ.

And if you're only posting in AIBU, then I'd suggest that you back away and post elsewhere!

horseygeorgie Sun 10-Jan-16 18:31:15

Arrgh. I wasn't 'cryptically moaning' about it. I was raising a point that I have felt affected me. Exactly my point! Every single phrase is deconstructed and taken in the wrong way around here.

I think referring to someones thoughts as a 'stompy foot sulk' is actually a bit rude tbh! But thank you for your input, along with everyone else. I will take it on board.

Sussexsavvy Sun 10-Jan-16 18:31:38

I posted on an AIBU thread the other day as I felt the posters were being nasty for the sake of it and I had to say so. I used to enjoy MN but not anymore and have decided to stick with just one thread on the conception board which I have posted on for the last 2 years and they're a lovely bunch. I feel AIBU in particular has become a platform for bullies and trolls. You can agree or disagree with the OP but just recently I've noticed it has become particularly nasty with many responses being completely unacceptable and vicious with no consideration for the OP feelings.

BIWI Sun 10-Jan-16 18:31:55

BTW, I should say - to support you - that I think there are some deeply unpleasant posters who seem to live only in AIBU and delight in being deliberately hostile and argumentative, which is why it's a place I'd suggest you avoid.

ghostyslovesheep Sun 10-Jan-16 18:32:37

yes I agree - report personal attacks to HQ - they will sort it out

I am sorry if you are hurt OP but I'll back out now - I can feel the scapegoat hat getting too close to my head grin

ilovesooty Sun 10-Jan-16 18:33:59

If you're personally attacked argue your corner and/or report it.
Otherwise hide the thread or just leave it.
