DH's cousin is a complete workaholic. He works in a bank and is highly paid which we hear a lot about; has never been known to last more than 20 minutes before frantically checking his Blackberry for emails at any given occasion (with the possible exception of his own wedding)

His wife sent us a solemn email saying that he had made a NY resolution to be less of a workaholic this year, and she'd like to arrange a family get-together this month where we could all catch up. Today we were informed that cousin had checked his diary and the first date he could definitely be available is.. Easter Monday.

I don't think his resolution is going too well.... AIBU to chortle?

made me giggle, obviously he can't be held respinsible for meetings he planned LAST year so it will take a while to slow down :)

As long as he doesn't mean Easter monday 2017 I don't think it's too ridiculous as he may have stuff already arranged.

But what do i know...I'm a work to live type Smile

Yabu

Why is it your business to laugh about how someone else lives there life? Hard work should be congratulated, not ridiculed. You don't know what else he has on in that time. I'd be bloody pissed off if I didn't have free time for a few months and someone started a thread on mn to "chortle" about it.

Love the word chortle. Massively underused.

You mean he turned off his phone while he was getting married?

Idle layabout.

I used to be a workaholic, until I sought help.

They put me on the 12 steps program.

I did 14.

Sorry.

Wow. What a terrible life he must have. Can you imagine being so wound up in work that you can't find time for a day with family in 4 months. That would just suck.

I love my job and I've said it before that I would happily carry on doing it for free but I would hate it if it meant it took over my family life to that extent. I feel sorry for him.

(I'm not being sarcastic/patronising, in case it comes across like that... I genuinely do think it's a really sad situation for anyone to find themselves in.)

Cut him some slack, Luloo. It's only 3 months until East Monday.

Banks do have a long hours culture but I'd be very suspicious of anyone who says they're earliest timeslot is several months away. I've worked for bank CEOs and Chairmen who find family time/can make plans within a few weeks - clearly the man isn't managing his time very well.
