To be hurt?

I made a birthday cake (pirate ship)as a gift for my nephew last year and one for SIL for her birthday, both cost about £15-20 each to make. We were talking about designs etc and she mentioned she'd never buy a professionally made cake as they cost too much and she can get one from Tesco for £7. She's just bought a huge princess castle cake for my niece who is 3 and cost her £100.

AIBU to be a bit hurt by her comments?

I'm not sure. She changed her mind on custom / quality?

I dnt understand why you are hurt?

StickyToffeePuddingAndCustard Sun 03-Jan-16 19:31:37

I'm not sure what it is that has hurt you.

Is it that she didn't ask you to make the princess castle?

PurpleDaisies Sun 03-Jan-16 19:31:57

I don't get it-what are you upset about?

Twitterqueen Sun 03-Jan-16 19:33:28

what exactly is the problem here?

NerrSnerr Sun 03-Jan-16 19:34:18

Sounds like she just change her mind. Is there more too this why you're upset?

CoffeeCoffeeAndLotsOfIt Sun 03-Jan-16 19:34:21

Are you hurt because she didn't ask you to make the princess cake?

Hurt why?

Because you weren't asked to make cake and she changed her mind?

Birdsgottafly Sun 03-Jan-16 19:37:31

OP rid these people from your life and don't give them headspace, that's easier said than done, I know, but focusing on this stuff, will stop you from moving on from it all.

Firsteverchangeofname Sun 03-Jan-16 19:38:35

'Rid them from your life'

Tad drastic?

Birdsgottafly Sun 03-Jan-16 19:38:38

As for the cake issue, we all change our minds on stuff as our children grow up.

It's her prerogative, it isn't. Personal slight on you.

PurpleDaisies Sun 03-Jan-16 19:38:42

Did you post on the right thread birds? confused

First there's a back story to this.

PurpleDaisies Sun 03-Jan-16 19:40:26

Do you have inside knowledge birds? I don't see where you're getting that from.

Goingtobeawesome Sun 03-Jan-16 19:43:11

I assume the OP is hurt that she baked cakes for the relative who then said she'd never pay for an ordered cake. Then does. So op thinks her cake wasn't good enough.

YakTriangle Sun 03-Jan-16 19:48:40

So OP is hurt because SIL would rather pay £100 for a cake for her daughter rather than let OP make one for £15, which implies that SIL doesn't think OP's pirate ship cake she made before was good enough.

I think most people would be a little hurt by that actually.

Asskicker Sun 03-Jan-16 19:56:42

yak do the sil should be obliged to never buy a cake again?

AutumnLeavesArePretty Sun 03-Jan-16 19:58:00

Why would you be hurt because she changed her mind re professional cakes?

Unless you are actually a professional baker, I see no reason for you to be hurt.

Firsteverchangeofname Sun 03-Jan-16 19:58:26

I don't think this would even register with me to be honest.

Unless I had a cake shop

Firsteverchangeofname Sun 03-Jan-16 19:58:54

Crossed post

peppielillyan Sun 03-Jan-16 19:59:04

I think she wanted to say that there is no need of spending £100 for a cake when you can spend those money on other things
When it is about cake, you can go with cheaper one because at the end all u do is eat it.
