Five Guys Burgers

Went to Bluewater today. Keep hearing how fantastic Five Guys burgers are!
So myself and DS 15 popped in for lunch all excited.
Can honestly say it tasted no better than Burger King except 5 times the price. Would have expected so much better. Anyone else think Five Guys are shit. Apart from GBK where else on the high street is good.

Byron is excellent, but I think 5 guys are good!

I didn't like five guys here in the UK. I loved it when we went in the US.

We quite like Byron burger, but the Leeds one wasn't great. The Farringdon one was amazing.

The kids like handmade burger company, they also have fairly decent selection for non red meat eaters. So suits my extended family more.

I found them very greasy.

5 Guys is as overrated as it is overpriced. I'd sooner have a Big Mac. Their burgers were distinctly average and tasteless, despite all the extra stuff I had in mine.

Byron is superb, as is Gourmet Burger Kitchen.

Oh sorry I missed that you mentioned GBK in your OP.

I bit into it and it was so full of everything it just all fell apart in my hand, juice pouring out all over the place which made bun all wet. Gagging now thinking about it. Chips rather nice though.

I actually think it is usually cheaper at GBK and for that you get a much bigger more filling burger (especially cos there are often vouchers for those kinds of places - handmade burger co etc). I like five guys but it is ridiculously overpriced in the UK compared to the US!

They've just opened a Byron in Newcastle. Not been yet but looking forward to going!

I think it depends what you have in a 5 Guys, I would always have one over a Burger King. If you are in London my favourite are Honest Burgers (their fries are Amazing too) and Shakeshack. Byron also good.
Ooooh I really want a burger now!

I like 5 guys but it is massively overpriced. Have had byron a few times - excellent. But just when in London. Am astounded anyone likes GBK - awful awful awful. Just bad burgers - tough. Did I just have a bad experience or two ?

Most US chains aren't as good when they cross the pond. I was most disappointed with the London branch of Chipotle.

I've always wanted to try Five Guys but they cook only using peanut oil so I can't (severe nut allergy). Have heard mixed reviews generally but mostly bad things about our local restaurant. We used to have a Byron here which was very good.

Byron burgers are really lovely. Taste of proper meat and not too soggy!

I like Byron for eat-in & Shakeshack for a quick bite. Dd2 & I ate at Shakeshack & Five Guys in Miami and far preferred Shakeshack - much better service & cleaner. Dd2 had a milk shake from the Five Guys next the the Palladium recently & it wasn't very clean either.

The only Byron burger I've had was so bland and tasteless and distinctly unpleasant, combined with poor service that I've never been tempted to think about going back.

Byron ridiculously expensive! Extra money for chips? I was amazed they expected so much cash for 1 burger and 1 piece of gherkin, not even a whole gherkin. I've never left a restaurant feeling so robbed

Byron is much nicer and the service is always great. I agree with the pp who said Five Guys is much better in the U.S.

I went for the first time today too. Not Bluewater. Grand Central in Brum. Totally agree with you op.

I only had cheese and ketchup on mine and I've never got in such a mess eating a burger. For the price there are plenty of other places I'd have liked to have gone to. I like Ed's Easy Diner- their burgers are nice.

Like you, I enjoyed the chips, and I also enjoyed being able to choose my own pop. I had Sprite with cherry.

If you're ever down Dorset way there is an amazing burger place in Weymouth, Dorset Burger Company. The Burgers are fabulous as is everything else they sell.
