As you might've guessed, I've just watched the annual Sound of Music airing on the BBC. And Captain Von Trapp! Well, you would, wouldn't you?

I agree.

SOM was my MILs favourite film perhaps she fancied him too.

Just caught the end of it. Last time I watched it I was a child and thought he seemed ancient compared to JA. Now I agree with you all.

Hell yes! I had a friend in sixth form who had a weird obsession with a young Christopher Plummer though.

I did at the time bit can't watch the Sound of Music now without feeling sooooo embarrassed for him as he is clearly hating every minute of it and silently cringing to himself whilst his agent whispers "think of the money Chris, think of the money" from the side of every scene.

He called it the Sound of Mucus apparently. He's gorgeous in it.

May I also draw your attention to the young Robert Redford?

My mum thought Christopher Plummer was the bees knees.
Anything with him in it'd was glued to.
She was born in 1929. Her other crush was Cary Grant.

Sometimes, I see DD 14 giving me the same look as I gave mum when I mention that a certain film is on. That sort of 'yuck, you're a mum, you don't have crushes' look.

On Imbd there is a quote from him saying he hated SOM and refused to watch it, always dissed it. Then in recent years after people going on about it so much, he did watch it and now likes it.

The actress who played Liesl has said that she and him had a huge flirty thing going on during filming, though nothing ever became of it. That's not as creepy as it sounds as she was 21 and he was about 35!

[A revised opinion on "The Sound of Music" (2011)] People were unnaturally sentimental about the film. So I always gave it a tough time. But a few years ago, I went to an Easter party and had to watch the damn thing with these kids. I was a prisoner! And then I thought, it's got everything - the lovely songs, the Nazis and the nuns and the kids. It's timeless and I'm grateful for it.

Cor the is a pic of him from this year with a beard...

Yes, I've heard about the Liesl thing as well. She had a huge crush on him apparently.

Sorry, but he was clearly phoning it in in SOM. His Captain was a subtle parody of the role. It's the only thing I don't like about the movie. I do love him in other things, though.
