As you might've guessed, I've just watched the annual Sound of Music airing on the BBC. And Captain Von Trapp! Well, you would, wouldn't you?

PinkSquash Fri 01-Jan-16 16:11:33

Oh goodness yes! blush

Puzzledandpissedoff Fri 01-Jan-16 16:12:45

Glad it's not just me ... grin

SumThucker Fri 01-Jan-16 16:14:01

God yes. No question.

WotNoLoobrush Fri 01-Jan-16 16:18:10

I agree.

SOM was my MILs favourite film perhaps she fancied him too.

MissisBee Fri 01-Jan-16 16:20:22

Just caught the end of it. Last time I watched it I was a child and thought he seemed ancient compared to JA. Now I agree with you all.

WongTobyWong Fri 01-Jan-16 16:21:06

He was my first crush! Followed by Dolph Lundgren in Rocky IVblush

SkibadeeDoodle Fri 01-Jan-16 16:26:45

Gorgeous eyes. I also remember him being 'an ould fella' when i watched it as a kid. Now, though...hell-oooooo

ethelb Fri 01-Jan-16 16:31:54

Hell yes! I had a friend in sixth form who had a weird obsession with a young Christopher Plummer though.

I did at the time bit can't watch the Sound of Music now without feeling sooooo embarrassed for him as he is clearly hating every minute of it and silently cringing to himself whilst his agent whispers "think of the money Chris, think of the money" from the side of every scene.

IguanaTail Fri 01-Jan-16 16:39:50

He called it the Sound of Mucus apparently. He's gorgeous in it.

NorthernLurker Fri 01-Jan-16 16:40:57

Yup grin

May I also draw your attention to the young Robert Redford?

MostGhostsAreMad Fri 01-Jan-16 16:42:33

Oh yes fwink

CrazyMermaidHair Fri 01-Jan-16 16:44:34

He was gorgeous, ridiculously handsome. Ive heard he was a bit of a tosser in real life back then though.

TotalConfucius Fri 01-Jan-16 16:45:45

My mum thought Christopher Plummer was the bees knees.
Anything with him in it'd was glued to.
She was born in 1929. Her other crush was Cary Grant.

Sometimes, I see DD 14 giving me the same look as I gave mum when I mention that a certain film is on. That sort of 'yuck, you're a mum, you don't have crushes' look.

landrover Fri 01-Jan-16 16:46:16

He had a definiate charisma!!!!!!!!!

Pointlessfan Fri 01-Jan-16 16:47:11

Yes he's delectable!

FuckedOffBankWadger Fri 01-Jan-16 16:50:53

On Imbd there is a quote from him saying he hated SOM and refused to watch it, always dissed it. Then in recent years after people going on about it so much, he did watch it and now likes it.

Cerseirys Fri 01-Jan-16 16:54:27

The actress who played Liesl has said that she and him had a huge flirty thing going on during filming, though nothing ever became of it. That's not as creepy as it sounds as she was 21 and he was about 35!

FuckedOffBankWadger Fri 01-Jan-16 16:55:36

[A revised opinion on "The Sound of Music" (2011)] People were unnaturally sentimental about the film. So I always gave it a tough time. But a few years ago, I went to an Easter party and had to watch the damn thing with these kids. I was a prisoner! And then I thought, it's got everything - the lovely songs, the Nazis and the nuns and the kids. It's timeless and I'm grateful for it.

Cor the is a pic of him from this year with a beard...

CrazyMermaidHair Fri 01-Jan-16 16:55:54

Yes, I've heard about the Liesl thing as well. She had a huge crush on him apparently.

SenecaFalls Fri 01-Jan-16 17:04:41

Sorry, but he was clearly phoning it in in SOM. His Captain was a subtle parody of the role. It's the only thing I don't like about the movie. I do love him in other things, though.

landrover Fri 01-Jan-16 17:16:06

phoning it?

Levantine Fri 01-Jan-16 17:19:40

I watched it for the first time in about 20 years. What a film. And hell yeah grin
