UGGS ughghghghghgh

I thought Uggs had gone away, but they are back with a vengeance. My DD 13 yo spent most of her xmas money on a pair, on sale, and although, as she pointed out to me over and over that it was her money, I am still seething. I don't get the point. They are completely unsuitable for our climate, far too expensive, not even very comfortable, with no arch support etc. Also they are, stating the obvious, hideous. She could have got at least two pairs of weather-appropriate, pretty boots which she could actually wear. Her defense: they are fluffy and everybody has them.

Yes i thought they were over too but have seen a few people wearing obviously new ones in the last few days. Maybe xmas presents or sale buys. I hate them.

Mine are warm and comfortable. I don't much care what they look like. What's wrong with warm and comfortable?

I'm sat here right now with mine on my feet! Love them! Comfiest footwear I own and I'm not a teenager Grin

Meh they are warm many people find them incredibly comfy.

Your dd is quite right it is her money she clearly likes them unless she is asking you to wear them you should hush up about them.

Personally I prefer Emu boots but each to their own

I don't like them but I couldn't get fussed about other people wearing them.

Sounds like you might have spoiled her enjoyment a bit, if she had to keep pointing out over and over that it was her money.

@MrsTerryPratchett: for the amount they cost (not judging on what you paid for them, just what my DD paid), being warm and comfortable isn't enough. I got sturdy fluff-lined comfy winter WATERPROOF boots which actually look nicer but a similar"bear paw" look, at literally 1/4th of the price.

The price-gouging isn't about the warmth and comfort. For some reason they hit a trend. Were they featured in some Rihanna music video or something?

Well, if she isn't actually going to wear them, then I agree it was a silly purchase. But I think they're cute.

Someone on here once described them as "cankle inducing" which stuck with me. Did DD purchase the almost obligatory Ugg shuffle or will she make her own..?

I got a pair for my 10 yr old dd in the local charity shop for £4. Bargain of the year and doesn't matter too much if they get wrecked at that price. they look brand new, I guess they could be fakes as this particular shop are not very good at spotting expensive or designer items.

I have Skechers ugg type boots, 2 pair. They are comfy, go with my jeans. I love them. Much better than having painful feet.

It's her money. Let her spend it on what she wants.

I love my Uggs, don't care if they're fuck ugly.

My feet are always warm. Smile

The thing with teaching kids about money is that they have to make their own mistakes. Free from judgement and 'I told you so's. If she loves them, it was money well spent. If her feet get wet, she might learn something. IF YOU RESIST telling her why you were right.

I sprayed mine and my feet were warm at the beach yesterday. The beach in December. In Canada.

Well, she took a gazillion photos of them for her Snapchat and talked about them endlessly, so I guess she's having enough enjoyment despite my wet-blanketishness.

I get what you're saying though.

I have a 13yr old DS who spent an obscene amount of his own money on a tracksuit.

But it was his money. He loved what he bought so I didn't piss on his chips.

What spray? there is a spray for Uggs? Please tell me about them- we are in small town Nova Scotia and sloshing around in muddy wet snow like there's no tomorrow.

I love my Uggs too. They are as comfortable as slippers and so warm. Don't care what anyone thinks about how they look.

I have yet to see anyone walking normally in them. They always seem to "cave in" to the inside too. People always seem to be walking on the actual ankle part. Confused to me they are very expensive but crap slippers.

The real uggs will last, if looked after. I've tried both the cheaper ones and uggs and uggs win. I don't mind buying them for my dd having tried them out myself.

Well, my DS spent a bunch of his money for "kits" for minecraft, so i guess Uggs are better. Still annoying though. They are ridiculously overpriced, IMO.

Well, actually they are comfortable and they last a long time.

I once had a pair that lasted me a good few winters and were quite waterproof once I'd sprayed them with protector. I even wore them in the thick snow of winter 2010-11 and my feet were still toasty!

I think the "seething" comes from her eagerness to buy in the brand mindset. i feel she is only desperate for Uggs b/c all the other girls at her school are.

desperate is a bit strong word here- not expressing myself clearly. "her desire for Uggs"?

Ah, wet slushy snow is the mortal enemy of Uggs. I just use the waterproofing spray from the shoe shop but there are more exciting ones! Do you have an MEC in NS?

Evelight · 31/12/2015 17:18

Looking up protectors for uggs as we speak. maybe if she could make them useful and I didn't keep thinking so much money for a pair of indoor slippers, i'd seethe less.
