To not understand the Bayliss and Harding hate

I've never used their products, just seeing an awful lot of hate for them on various threads. Does it bring you out in hives or something? Genuinely just wondering what the deal is? grin

I find the consistency of their shower gel a bit grim (jelly-like).

Ohfuckohfuckofuck Mon 28-Dec-15 21:26:29

They're a grim rip off. They smell cheap. Just buy bloody own brand.

catfordbetty Mon 28-Dec-15 21:27:02

Often on offer in Sainsbury. Handwash of choice in downstairs bog. No complaints to date.

ephemeralfairy Mon 28-Dec-15 21:29:16

Yeah, £2 for 500ml as opposed to less than a quid for supermarket own brand 200ml. B& H isn't THAT bad, it's just a bit jumped up and an obvious rip-off of Molton Brown.
Personally I like the Aldi rip-off of a rip-off!!

M48294Y Mon 28-Dec-15 21:29:40

It's just a bit cheap and nasty. No biggie.

Trust me, we REALLY do not need yet another thread on it!

LadyB49 Mon 28-Dec-15 21:30:22

I have 5 of them in the bottom of my wardrobe.
And they include in the box, to fill it up, a shower washy scrubby thingy that is crap.
I'm not sure just what it is that I don't like, it just feels to me like a lazy gift??

QueryQuery Mon 28-Dec-15 21:30:57

I have sensitive skin so haven't ever used them, but I've been told it's because they're packaged to look like a much better product than they actually are, and they're actually bog standard supermarket type products. All fur coat and no knickers, to coin a phrase.

HarrietSchulenberg Mon 28-Dec-15 21:32:07

I have no beef with Bayliss and Harding stuff. It's good for school fair raffle prizes (prefer to win that than vinegary wine or sweets), smells OK and the handwash is fine for everyday use.
I would be a bit hmm if given it as a main present as I know it's so cheap (and that the giver would merely have nipped across the road to Home Bargains grin) but as a generic gift thing it's fine.

sooperdooper Mon 28-Dec-15 21:32:29

Meh I can't get worked up about it, I've been given their sets before and it all gets used in the end

CurlyhairedAssassin Mon 28-Dec-15 21:33:22

Probably the same ingredients as MB, just less marketing/hype. It's a snob thing. I'm a reverse snob. I prefer Aldi's hand wash. Smells divine, doesn't give me a rash or dry my hands out. I feel smug that I haven't wasted loads of money on marketing. So there.

Queenbean Mon 28-Dec-15 21:33:42

I don't really care either way for it - it's fine for what it is, wouldn't go out my way to buy it, wouldn't care if I got given it

Dickbumdick Mon 28-Dec-15 21:33:48

Thanks ladies, was tempted to buy some just to see what the deal was! wink

Apologies for yet another thread on it! grin

Boredofthinkingofnewnames Mon 28-Dec-15 21:34:38

It's a cheap copy. I would rather a cheap original than a cheap copy of that makes sense? Couldn't give a monkeys what other people have in their bathrooms but I'll stick to sanex / carex when I can't afford Molton and Brown.

Whoknewitcouldbeso Mon 28-Dec-15 21:36:23

Yep it's because it's a cheap gift but they package it to look more expensive. People who receive it know it's cheap so feel peeved, particularly as someone said, if it's given as a main gift from someone who is meant to care about you.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie Mon 28-Dec-15 21:36:26

I like the handwash. M&B is ridiculously over-priced and really not that much better than B&H.

Aeroflotgirl Mon 28-Dec-15 21:37:15

Just cheap and nasty really, not as bad as poundshop smellies though.

TheRadiantAerynSun Mon 28-Dec-15 21:40:50

It's a very poor quality product packaged to make it look expensive.

I was given some last year and thought it looked quite nice, but the product was thin, watery and frankly unusable. I ended up throwing it away. The box was nice though and I use it to store headphones in!

DD bought me the gingerbread Bayliss and Harding set with the socks in for Christmas.

I like it and thought it was a nice gift from a teenager.

To me it is a nice gift.

I had never heard of Molton and Brown before these threads.

The whole thing has made me feel a bit sad, like I'm too old/stupid/out of touch to realise what our family considers nice is a load of old crap to most people other people.

watchingthedetectives Mon 28-Dec-15 21:49:08

It has no smell and the texture is slimy. I don't care about the price - happy with cheap brands but with this you may as well put fairy liquid in the bath.

linspins Mon 28-Dec-15 21:51:01

Almond, it is a nice present from a teenager, don't feel sad. Plenty of people appreciate it.

Cheap and nasty

BlueMoonRising Mon 28-Dec-15 21:51:45

I love the B&H handwash I have at the moment - gorgeously vanilla. I also liked the black pepper one I had before that.

I haven't tried anything other than the handwashes though.
