AIBU?

To ask them how much longer the DIY will go on...

We live in a semi-detached old property and around a year ago the elderly lady who lived next door sold up to move to a bungalow. Young couple moved in. Both Teachers so lots of time off work.

They have been doing DIY from around the second month of moving in, they appear to be doing most of it themselves and after around 10 months of it I have had enough. We were driven out again by the noise today and I feel on edge when at home waiting for the noise to start. Whilst sitting typing this I can hear the bloody drill on the party wall and I want to scream.

It's really getting me down now, mainly because it's been going on so long and has worn me down. I also work from home and she only works part time so when she's at home she's doing DIY too so feel like I get no respite from it.

I really do appreciate they are doing the house up because it all needed modernising (we did the same 10 years ago, but completed within 3 months) but I can't see an end to theirs. So would IBU to ask them how much longer the work will continue if only for my own sanity.

Sounds like the house is requiring alot of work to it. I don't know what to suggest really as during the day people are permitted to do diy.Maybe have a gentle chat ask them to only do it certain times of the day as you work from hime and at times difficult to concretrate.

I would ask, but make sure you do so as politely as possible.

It's not unreasonable to ask how the work is going and when do they see it being finished. Nor to mention that all the sound is heard in your house, so you're wondering when you can look to getting back to normal.
