to think this woman was rude for swearing and barging by me?

People queuing up to go down the escalator, I checked my phone but the queue moved much faster than I thought.

I stopped at the top to put my phone back and the woman behind muttered for fuck sake and barged by me and went down the escalator.

I was wrong to hold her up but surely she didn't have to be that rude?

People are so much ruder and impatient these days.

Forget it, I doubt she has given you a thought.

She didn't have to be rude but you didn't have to be rude either, by choosing to check your phone right there.

Put it behind you and move on.

I don't like people dawdling in doorways/stairways/escalators either...

She could have been polite

BUT you were down right dangerous

How was she any ruder than you though? You stopped at the top/bottom of an escalator to put your phone in your bag, blocking the exit, which is potentially dangerous.

Being so utterly oblivious to your surroundings like that is worse than a muttered "for fucks sake".

I was queuing in the bank the other day and the woman in front of me was on her phone.

When it was her turn to be served, she shoved her card at the cashier and muttered something, while continuing her phone conversation.

I was just thinking how rude but sadly very common this has become, when the cashier smiled firmly and said, "Would you like to stand to one side while you finish your conversation, so I can serve the person behind you".

Never saw someone hang up so quickly! Xmas Grin

You can't just stop at the top of an escalator! Sometimes the number of people behind make it impossible to not barge into the inconsiderate twat who has stopped to do something that could have waited for 10 sec.

What a ridiculous place to stop!

She might not have purposely barged into you but have expected you to move and gone into you then. I agree no need for her to be rude but the number of people who don't look where they're going because they're on their phones is also rude.

No, Ywbu for standing still at the top of an escalator checking your phone. People like that who have no awareness of the world around them are massively irritating. I think her reaction was fine tbh.

She was rude and a tit. I get v fed up with people dawdling in my way when u am rushing, but I don't push them and swear (unless in retaliation. One part of my journey home from work is often a bit... interesting.).

You were the unreasonable one. I bet you live in the countryside and don't go on escalators much Grin

Worra
How was she rude checking her phone whilst in a queue? Confused
She was looking at her phone and did not realise the queue had moved.
Do you consider that rude?

Report
WorraLiberty · 28/12/2015 18:37

What I consider rude is finding yourself at the top of an escalator and holding people up, to put your phone away.

She should have either waited until she got to the bottom, or just stood to one side.

I agree with Worra.

Just put your phone away til you get off the escalator.

I am glad I didn't go to the shops today if there are actual queues for the escalators. Shock

Was it really necessary to check your phone? I don't understand why people can't just queue, what's so important/urgent that requires constant monitoring of your phone?

Report
Nydj · 28/12/2015 18:43

could you not have held onto your mobile until you were on the escalators and then put it away once you were meant to be standing still?

Sparklingbrook · 28/12/2015 18:44

Perhaps there's an 'Escalator App' emotions. Tells you when to step on and get off.....

If people had more patience, calmed down and did not consider every minor thing rude the would be a calmer place. Some funny ones on here Confused

I guess the woman did not need to swear or barge past you but you op were inconsiderate and dangerous in your use of your phone in this situation. I think it is a kind of rudeness to be so inconsiderate of others.

Meant to say world would be a better place

Report

It was unreasonable and selfish for you to stop at the top of the escalator for no good reason. You could even have caused an accident. This constant mobile phone dependency is very tedious.
