She is sat in her bedroom with flimsy thin shorts and vest pjs on and the heating on full blast (which we cannot afford) and i have asked her to turn the heating down or off and put a jumper or her dressing gown on because it is winter.

Her response was that i am the most pathetic meanest person in the world and exactly it is winter.

For the record last time i moaned she threatened to turn back and switch the heating on for the whole time we were away and the water tap (we are on a water meter) and then i would have cause to moan angry

Tell her she is welcome to wear as few clothes as she likes, and have the heating as high as she wants, starting from the day she pays the heating bill.

Until then, she needs to suck it up and put on some sodding clothes.

Savagebeauty Mon 28-Dec-15 14:05:54

How old is she?
Just turn the heating down yourself.

goodnessgraciousgoudaoriginal Mon 28-Dec-15 14:05:57

Is she always this much of a brat??

StillStayingClassySanDiego Mon 28-Dec-15 14:06:40

How old?

goodnessgraciousgoudaoriginal Mon 28-Dec-15 14:07:03

And why are you ASKING your child to do something?

Either demand or do it yourself and tell her in no uncertain terms that there will be consequences if she unilaterally kicks off.

Does she get pocket money? That can bloody stop for a start!

TaliZorah Mon 28-Dec-15 14:07:14

YANBU but as someone who's always cold it's annoying to have to wear 5 layers all the sodding time

ItsMeImHere Mon 28-Dec-15 14:07:33

How old is your dd?

If she is old enough to stay home while you are away, I assume she is at least 17+. In which case you can tell her to get a part time job and contribute to the heatig/water bills. Or, dock her allowance accordingly (if she has one).

VinylScratch Mon 28-Dec-15 14:07:48

She sounds like a madam, she'll soon be moaning when there's nothing in the pot for her pocket money, tell her it's heating off or no money for treats/going out with her mates.

OryxNotCrake Mon 28-Dec-15 14:08:20

Assuming she is not a preeschooler YANBU. Turn the heating down. She can choose to put on more clothes or get cold.

Sirzy Mon 28-Dec-15 14:09:02

Heating only goes on if you are cold after having put on jumpers, socks etc.

If she wants it on more she pays, in advance!

Fyaral Mon 28-Dec-15 14:09:10

She can have it on if she pays. Am shocked at the threat. How brattish.

Champagneformyrealfriends Mon 28-Dec-15 14:09:40

She sounds lovely.

balletgirlmum Mon 28-Dec-15 14:09:41

My kids have no control over the heating until the day they pay the bills.

Can you alter the time clock or turn the boiler down?

OurBlanche Mon 28-Dec-15 14:10:01

Crikey! Whatever age she is you can show her how much it costs to run the heating... and take it out of her pocket money!

MaisieDotes Mon 28-Dec-15 14:11:03

I (or DH) control the heating in our house, given that we pay the bill.

DD sometimes asks if it can go on early as she's finding it cold, and I say yes or no depending on what I think.

If she was wearing shorts and a vest the answer would be no.

TaliZorah Mon 28-Dec-15 14:13:21

And why are you ASKING your child to do something?

Because she respects her child and is polite

Cotto Mon 28-Dec-15 14:14:59

Seriously why are you asking her confused
I haven't even got the heating on ,its not even cold.

She would get short shrift from me !

bodenbiscuit Mon 28-Dec-15 14:15:26

How old is she?

Nanofone Mon 28-Dec-15 14:15:34

Well said Tali! Children learn respect by being respected.

Cotto Mon 28-Dec-15 14:16:38

Sadly Tali allowing your child to behave as if they are in charge ends up with this type of scenario.
My DC would never speak to me in this way nor threaten me.

GreatFuckability Mon 28-Dec-15 14:17:13

Yeah, this child is clearly learning respect from being respectfully asked....hmm
Id just turn it off.

ThumbWitchesAbroad Mon 28-Dec-15 14:17:56

Another ungrateful teen thread?
Well, similar advice to the one that I've already posted on (3 ungrateful boys in that case) - turn the electricity off so that the heating goes off.
And, depending on her age and income status (does she even have one?) then I'd be presenting her with the next bill so she can see and feel the pain she's causing with her fuck-awful attitude.
