AIBU?

To be dead impressed with domestic and generals brilliant out the box thinking solution to my broken fridge?

It went loudly and firmly kaput on Christmas Eve because it is a bastard.

Was informed I'd have to call on Boxing Day for a engineer call out, no guarantee of a fix as fridge may well be beyond help or parts need ordering.

The earliest they can come is the 4th of January.

Despite my being sold a super duper magical warranty of guaranteed quick response and solutions due to my fridge being "a vital household item"

I feel that minimum of 10 days is a vex worthy time period to be minus a fridge.

But it's ok! They've resolved the ENTIRE issue by telling me to buy ANOTHER fridge from somewhere, obviously at my cost. So I can refrigerate stuff till I get mine fixed at their convenience.

I'm very impressed. Amazingly well thought out response. They should be commended tbh.

If you do, can you send your dh out for it and then tell us what he buys instead?

Wow what dicks!

But, it's just a thought, is it not a tad presumptuous to assume that up and down the land people have an emergency fridge fund?

Isn't paying the warranty of "awesome response and service" kind of that?

Have I got it all wrong again?

(Dh is not allowed to shop for the rest of the year. He had a jolly nice time buying the children and I yet another bath mat and matching towel for presents this year, which is enough shopping for him)

(I got orange this year)

Their response is about as wise as the vendors response to my offer on their house..
Me: I would like to offer x£s please.
Them: We accept
Me: Thanks
Them: Would you like to offer more money??
Me: No, no I wouldn't.

No guarantee of a fix translates as you always need to replace so you may as well buy one and recoup the funds.
I think they mean just pop to a local store that is open at this time of year and will deliver in the afternoon.
Mmm insurance grrrrrrrrrrr

No. Because......

....it's actually a fridge freezer and the freezer is still working.

Yup. Fridge part went loud and explodey, freezer is carrying on oblivious to the fact it's upper half has entirely given up.

So I still have ice cream

I've heard that hoovering the metal oblong honeycomb thing on the back can help. But I can't remember why.
That sounds like the crappest of crap policies.

No recouping. If it's dead they send a replacement from the manufacturer apparently ... Which also has to scheduled.

I have taken their advice and my new fridge is being delivered on Monday.

They've also logged me as a complaint and I can expect it to be noted in four working days. Which is nice of them.

I'm seriously considering not cancelling the engineer and inviting in for a brew and to admire my new fridge, whisky being paid for the call out

I mean someone might as well benefit?

Waste of money - buy a new fridge and get a repair service put on your home insurance - it will be cheaper than the super duper warranty they sell you in the shop and cover your TV and washer too.

I hate GE. They wrote my oven off because parts were obsolete. I could have got a new glass door easily enough, but the handle wasn't available. Still had the handle. But was written off. Replacing it was a fucking NIGHTMARE and took months and cost a fortune (rewiring for electric instead of gas because no one does fitted gas ovens any more). Wankers also offered a stand-alone gas oven because they didn't LISTEN - needed to be BUILT-IN double oven. Wankers.
Hate 'em.

Does anyone remember the Jewish fridge thread?

Maybe your fridge is making a point about which celebrations it would like to partake in? Did it behave itself over Hanukkah?

Maybe if you approach it with a conciliatory gift of smoked salmon it will reconsider Grin

Slight derailment but my telly which was ver ver expensive went kaput after not many years of service 13 bastard months
I'm currently seeking a refund from the credit card I bought it on under section 75 (have a look at moneysavingexpert for info)
Although I didn't get missold a warranty

I thought I was the only person with a kaput fridge but a freezer that is doing sterling work! Sadly, it's not a GE one - but the piece of shite my landlord bought off the back of a lorry five years ago when the previous one turned into an electric shock machine. It's always been suboptimal, but is now completely buggered Grin But I also have ice cream!

Oddness. Same thing happened to my MIL just before Christmas as well - no warranty though, so she just got a new one and it was delivered on Weds, just in time for Christmas. When I say "same thing", twas only the fridge that was bolloxed, the freezer was still working fine. Maybe it's a new "thing"?

Claim the cost of the new fridge as consequential loss. Also EU legislation covers faulty electrical items for 6 years.

Domestic and general are a bunch of pointless wankstains. All the repair guys are fine, lovely in fact. But I've had them out at least twice a month for the past year for my bloody washing machine. I've only continued to pay for the warrantee on the assumption that, soon, the machine has to be unrepairable.

I feel your pain.
