Aibu to ask you to spare a thought for those who are flooded.

We have lots of localised floods that are stopping our plans to visit family today.
A small problem compared to those having to leave their homes and the poor kids who can't just play with their toys.

Please check AA route planner if you are in NW as there are many routes and areas with closed roads. Our trip was only 5 miles but no way can we find a way through.

East Lancs is closed and M6 has part closures.

The bottom of my village is flooded (Baildon/Saltaire) and homes have been evacuated. It's just so awful. I'm very thankful we are high up next to the moor.

I think this is what makes me so sad, we got up and saw streets flooding near us and realised we are a little bit inconvenienced, but they are facing far worse.
I feel so sorry for those affected.

We are in Lancs too. Rather rural. One of the things that annoys me is that very few people report local/rural road flooding (on 101). I reported a local road and it was closed for a week, until it was safe. Some people now won't report it because of the inconvenience that can cause.....
It is very bad. I think our home is safe but the surface water in the local fields and in our garden shows how bad the rain has been over the past month.

Lots of flooding in parts of North Wales too. Some major roads closed - A5 and A55. Hoping it has subsided by tomorrow as DM is in hospital in Bangor and we are due to go and visit her. We are already 90 miles away and wouldn't be certain of finding a way through on minor roads - if indeed there is one!

Hebden Bridge is flooded and has no power. There was a fire in the village that was put out by the floods.

DH is a FireFighter working in Lancashire. He says Lancashire is sinking.

We are supposed to be having our Christmas Dinner tonight - Not sure he will be home in time.

It's pretty bad in our corner of Yorkshire, though thankfully not too many homes are affected, the stretch that floods is mostly well away from the houses, mostly parkland, we are quite lucky in that respect. Very impressed by the community spirit though - lots of offers of help from people on the local community website and a local builders merchant has offered free sandbags to anyone in need of them.

Hebden Bridge is flooded and has no power Sad I used to live in Hebden Bridge and remember the floods in 2000.

Our local river is prone to bursting its banks and it's currently very high, but so far it's ok. My oldest friend is in Cumbria and they're on a flood alert.

It's so horrible for the people affected. Crossing my fingers that it doesn't get any worse and that the power gets restored soon for those without.

We're near bury and we have localised flooding in the area, with road closures all over. My sister is Darwen, and says the main road has gone there.

Ramsbottom has lost a building, and is closed.

The road through Ramsbottom looks awful. Stoneclough in Bolton looks a mess too.

Flooding bad all over Lancashire DD and DS set off at 10 to visit their father - most roads impassable - kept trying then got caught trying to get back - waiting to be towed home at moment
DP is trapped over in East Lancs
I was trying to get to Manchester but decided not to try -
Where I live is not too bad - huge ponds on fields and some roads blocked but so far my home appears safe

It's just so sad Sad I'm not at home at the moment but traveling back to West Yorkshire later, there are 3 ways we can go back and at the moment 1 is closed.

One friends house is by a canal and they have moved furniture upstairs as its rising, hope they are ok.

Nicknamegrief · 26/12/2015 14:19

AA route planner is only so good, lots of local roads that are impassable are not on it! Not so good for rural areas. Thankfully we have no need to leave the house until tomorrow afternoon or Monday!

We're on the west Lancs boarder and it's not good here! The river has burst it's banks and the canal is scarily high and overflowing in places.

Really feel for everyone who is facing this.

We were due to drive from London to Cumbria tonight but will be staying at home. We are fortunate to not have the option of avoiding the adverse weather when so many do not but sad not to be visiting.

It's just awful, saw a photo on fb of hebdon bridge and you can barely see the tops of the doors on the road.

Heart goes out to all affected, especially those losing everything.

valancyjane, you must live in the same town I do. It's quite heartwarming to see.

We're due to come home tomorrow and somewhat disconcertingly, someone has posted a video of the road I live off with a torrent of water rushing down it.
