Christmas is busy, I know, I know.

DH's sister is here. She has access to the most ambrosial aubergine chutney, homemade, by her MiL. Her MIL won't share the recipe but deigns to share some jars at Christmas. My jar is on SIL's kitchen table 350 miles away.

I can send her back to get it, can't I?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine Thu 24-Dec-15 14:45:42

Of course!
You can't let her ruin Christmas for everybody shock

MsMargaretCarter Thu 24-Dec-15 14:47:26

Aargh. I can feel your disappointment from here.

PreAdvent13610 Thu 24-Dec-15 14:47:32

Any chance of packing all the people and Christmas stuff into a car or two and transferring to your sisters house for Christmas?

hesterton Thu 24-Dec-15 14:49:05

Kill her.

magimedi Thu 24-Dec-15 14:51:54

LTB

Leave the bitch!)

readyforno2 Thu 24-Dec-15 14:52:53

She's done this on purpose. No doubt

InanimateCarbonRod Thu 24-Dec-15 14:54:04

Christmas is ruined. Stay in bed. My condolences.grin

TheVermiciousKnid Thu 24-Dec-15 14:55:12

Face it, she has already eaten it. sad

OddSocksHighHeels Thu 24-Dec-15 15:08:21

Aubergine is horrible. You're better off without it.

Ohtobeskiing Thu 24-Dec-15 15:11:54

She wants it all for herself. She didn't forget it, she 'forgot' it. fgrin

SevenOfNineTrue Thu 24-Dec-15 15:16:39

I wouldn't be sad, I hate chutney smile Seriously though, if you love a food and are denied it when you were expecting it, I'd be annoyed.

fidel1ne Thu 24-Dec-15 15:20:39

Aubergine chutney? 'Ambrosial'? This is a bit of a tall tale, I think hmm

scribblegirl Thu 24-Dec-15 15:21:17

I'm with the posters above. She's had her chutney and eaten it wink

Chippednailvarnish Thu 24-Dec-15 15:24:41

How far away is the mil?
Could you kidnap her, take her to a supermarket and then force her to make a new batch?

RomComPhooey Thu 24-Dec-15 15:26:09

I'm more inclined to think the MIL IBU in not sharing her recipe so more of the world can benefit. You can hardly blame your SIL for hoarding when its so tightly rationed.

Eigg Thu 24-Dec-15 15:47:06

Saves you a thank you note...

Hatethis22 Thu 24-Dec-15 15:47:34

I think you need to take a deep breath. Then work out how to kidnap the MIL and extract the recipe from her. Then post it on here.

TheRattleBag Thu 24-Dec-15 15:53:46

I agree with RomComPhooey. I don't understand why people are so secretive about recipes! If I make something that someone appreciates enough to ask for the recipe, I gladly share it. Just seems mean spirited not to.

WitchWay Thu 24-Dec-15 16:09:38

Oh no - disaster sad

I fucking love chutney, much nicer than whole pickled things like onions grin

MsButteryMash Thu 24-Dec-15 16:14:57

I'd have to try making some and see if I could recreate it.

I'd be upset too, I love nice chutney at Christmas - with the cold turkey and ham, in a brown bread sandwich mmmmm

<makes things worse>

SecretBondGirl Thu 24-Dec-15 16:28:25

Get her to email her mum for the recipe as her dds life is at stake then get her to find an open shop to buy the necessary ingredients she'll be up until 2 am in the morning making it but it'll be worth it to save Xmas fwink

YouGottaKeepEmSeparated Thu 24-Dec-15 16:29:36

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

diddl Thu 24-Dec-15 16:34:51

Got to "ambrosial" & was side tracked by the thought of rice pudding!

TeaFathers Thu 24-Dec-15 16:35:55
