AIBU?

To think my DM is being a drama llama

I'm visiting my DM and her boyfriend nipped out to get us McDonalds as he's been at work all day and is knackered from working overtime. He usually cooks and my DM never does.

Anyway, she asked for the new festive burger and off he went. When he came back she went digging for the one without bacon on. She just doesn't like bacon. It's not a religious thing or anything like that. She threw a hissy fit at her boyfriend for not ordering one without bacon even though she asked for a burger that she knows has it on and she didn't ask for without. He made the point that she didn't clarify and she just moaned 'but I don't like baconnn' like a child. I took the bacon off for her and she still wouldn't eat it. He offered to go back and get something else but she's just gone off in a huff whilst swearing at him and calling him awful names.

AIBU to think if you don't like something you should clarify you want it without, take it the fuck off or order something else?

For religious people or veggie/vegans I understand but if you just don't like something then it's damn childish.

I'm veggie and I'd pick the bacon off (a veggie burger). Maybe it's the end of a long running argument?

Why are you both enabling her ridiculous behaviour?

Poor bloke, she sounds like hard work.

I would have laughed. All that over a bit of lovely bacon (yes I know I'm veggie but bacon is vegetarians' kryptonite).

I've took my food and left with my DH and DD because I can't stand her childish behaviour. She once cried because I made bacon in her favourite pan and she said everything will taste like it nowHmm

Oh I'd have fun with that. You do know that you can get bacon scented car air freshener don't you? I haven't heard of that much fuss over bacon (and I worked with rastafarian).

I might buy some and hide it in her car Grin

My DH has a phobia of cheese (as he likes to call it). We think it's connected to the fact his GD used to give him his cheese sandwiches from work when he was younger and he ended up finding him dead in bed when he was 12. He absolutely hates the stuff and people throw it at him at work (chef). But he has no problem removing it from his food or his shoulder Grin

What sort of (non veggie) person doesn't like bacon? Shock

Or those with certain religious beliefs, I should have said.

I got my DB bacon scented soap for Christmas last year!

Only you know if she is a "Drama Llama".

A lot of real issues surface st this time of year.

If he knows she doesn't like Bacon and didn't think that it was important enough to pay attention, whilst she's flat out organising Christmas, it could be understandable.

I once made a bigger deal than it would seem because my then DP let waiting staff take my cup of tea, which I was leaving to go cool, as he knew I liked it.

If that isn't the case, then you were right to show your DCs that you don't put up with this behaviour, you remove yourself from the situation.

She swore at him?! He puts up with that kind of thing?

Hope you're not staying for christmas with a difficult parent and no pigs in blankets!

By the way, I'm Vegetarian because of illness, I'm usually Vegan, but I still crave Bacon.

I can understand her point though (Not about the tantrum).
I hate bacon. Everyone knows I hate bacon. I haven't eaten bacon for over 26 years. If I ordered something with bacon as standard, I wouldn't need to say without bacon, because unless someone who doesn't know me, everyone knows I would not eat it.

Taking it out, and eating it wouldn't be an option either because I would still be able to taste it.

lord, it's the sort of shit my DM would pull, except she wouldn't have thrown a strop, she'd have made a point of saying she'll just cope with nothing, then make lots of comments about how hungry she is, the next day how hungry she is after not having had a proper dinner, but "wouldn't want to make a fuss" so if you went back to get her what she did want, it'd be repeated over and over you didn't need to and you were the one making the drama. Mind you, she would never, ever say she didn't like something, everything she doesn't like she's "allergic to", so there's nothing, ever, that she "won't eat" - she "can't eat that" (and then would make comments about it being 'yuck' and 'how can you eat that?', even though maintaining this is an allergy - she's got a couple of real allergies but most new ones have arrived intermittantly, and she's very hostile to the suggestion of talking to a medical professional about them).

It's draining being with someone like this. Some people are fucking drama llamas about food.

bloodyteenagers - to be fair, if you chose to order something with bacon on it, being aware it has bacon on it, knowing you don't normally like bacon, I might just assume you'd 'got over' your bacon related issues and order what you asked me to. Lots of people who 'hate' foods one time then next time I see them they are suddenly liking them. (I'd check with a child, but an adult, I'd assume they weren't so stupid to order something they won't eat).

He probably would have remembered to ask for it without bacon if it wasn't a busy drive thru and he wasn't getting food for 6 people

Birds and bloody, but it isn't particularly grown-up to respond by whining, having a hissy fit, swearing and flouncing off in a huff, is it?
