To think my family are wrong for this

I dont speak to my brother or my sister (now) and my aunt is executor of my mothers will.
My Aunt was meant to take both my mothers cats but she only ended up taking one. My aunt and brother wanted to kill the boy cat, well take him into a shelter and there's no way he would of found a home, he is black, old and shy, he would of been killed.
My mother wouldnt of wanted this.
I took him in even though i only live in a one bedroom, with a baby and another cat.
My sister couldnt take the cat as her boyfriend has allergies.

My mum didnt get him chopped, chipped or injected so i had to get all of this plus the extra food i have of course have to buy.
I only work part time.

My aunt took money out of the estate to get the cat she took to be injected, chipped ect
and my aunt said to send her the vet bills and she will take money out of the estate to give to me which was £100

After three attempts of asking her and her fogging me off she eventually told me that my brother doesnt want to pay for the cat as he wanted him in a shelter and it was my choice to take him.
This is true but we all know my mother wouldnt of wanted this, she really loved her cats and my sister doesnt mind me having the money, its only him who has the problem.

The will has been divided between me, sister, brother only.

AIBU to think this is wrong on so many levels?

Is your brother an executor of the will? If not then he can fuck off.

Why is your Aunt doing everything her nephew says?

You're not wrong, but I have found death (particularly of a parent) does funny (and not the 'ha ha' kind) things to people.

At least you live with knowing that you're are honouring your mother's wishes. And even though an extra hundred pounds hurts at this time of year, at the end of the day, that's only money, and other things really, really are more important.

Flowers for you, though.

If your aunt is the executor then I believe she is expected to act fairly and within the law. If you have receipts for expenses then she can deduct them from the estate.
£100 between 3 of you is £30 each. He couldn't get a solicitors letter challenging that for £30. Pillock.

Selfish Pillock. Put him in a shelter instead. Well done you for taking your mum's animal.

Wait, so your aunt/executor paid herself out of your mum's estate for expenses for the cat she took, but is refusing payment to you for the same things? Hmmm, that sounds fishy to me. Is there a reason the estate hasn't been settled and the shares paid out to the three of you?

As someone who rescued a beautiful black boy cat from a shelter, and who absolutely adores him, I wanted to thank you on your mum's behalf for taking him in. You know she wanted the cats kept in the family and that's what's important. Your brother should know better. Ignore him, give your aunt the receipts. Your mum I'm sure wouldn't have wanted you to be in any financial hardship for taking in her cat. Flowers

It's nothing to do with your brother! Is there a solicitor involved? If if wasnt in the will how has your aunt taken that money? I'd wonder what else hadn't been done to your mums wishes

Death unfortunately shows up everyones true colours and i'm afraid your brothers aren't very nice.

I would tell your aunt you expect the money for the cat as she had taken hers out of the estate and its nothing to do with your brother. Remind her that this is what she told you to do and you are expecting it. Im sorry for your loss but at least you have given your mums cat a second chance at life, you sound like a lovely person for doing so and as for someone who could just send it to a shelter to be put down.... says it all doesn't it!

Why aren't you and your sister speaking?

Just give your aunt copies of the receipts and tell her you want the money. I THINK that to do this legally, you, your brother and sister would need to sign something that says they agree with this, but what's he going to do about it if this doesn't happen?

I don't understand why she's doing what her nephew tells her. Is he a very forceful character?

My DSis's two old rescue cats came from a centre - you shouldn't assume it will not be homed from a rescue centre. I would look into this too, some people for whatever reasons prefer an old cat!!! Especially if you have now had it spayed.

Send bills to solicitor.
