Sorry, posting for traffic!!! Baby gone nuclear!!! Won't bore you with details but basically horrific combo of relentless crying, puking, no poohs then amazingly huge ones and worst thing of all is he just seems so so so unhappy and is breaking my heart!!! Did make appt with someone found off google then dh convinced me we couldn't afford it so cancelled but he now agrees we need to go somewhere as gp lovely but openly not expert on this, the ranitidine seems to have made things worse. Trying osteopath on Tuesday through charity which dh thinks mad but coming round to now in desperation! Friend who is midwife also double checking for tongue tie tomorrow but think we just need to get out a credit card and see someone who knows their stuff as poor thing just desperate as are his mum and dad!!!!

Your GP should refer you to a paediatrician, I second pp advice to go back to GP.

How old is baby? Baby poo is weird - practically anything can be normal. As long baby is gaining weight, something good is happening.

You honestly just need to see a normal paediatrician not a special gastro one, this will be entirely witin their capabilities. They will have seen hundreds if not thousands of babies like this and know exactly what to do.

Go back to GP, ask if anyone else in practice is the baby expert (some GPs will have extra qualifications in child health) or for an NHS referral to a paed. And don't waste your money on the osteopath - pure snake oil for this.

Go back to the GP and ask for a referral . And keep going back until you get one. No need to go private, especially if doing so would put you into debt

Try an infant feeding specialist to check for tongue tie- midwives just arent trained to spot them (DD's was missed by several midwives, HVs, breastfeeding support workers and a GP, was finally spotted by an infant feeding specialist).

Will definitely try for a referral this week, cut out dairy myself for a week and seems to be worse if anything! Thing is we're already on a referral for his heart murmur and they said the waiting time is 18 weeks... Baby seven weeks and so unhappy poor love!!!!

Phone up paed secretary, ask if any earlier appointments - and say you will accept cancellations. There almost certainly will be earlier appointments.

Agree with pp. Ring the Pead's secretary, explain that there are new concerns and ask for the referral to be re-prioritised as urgent. They may not agree to re-prioritise but it never hurts to ask and you may find they can slot you into a cancelled slot as lots of people tend to cancel or reschedule apppointments this close to Christmas.

Have you checked for gastric reflux? Infant Gaviscon can make them constipated which can explain none then lots of poo.

My memory is that Dr Winrow at Kingston (NHS) was the best of the dozens of paeds at hospitals throughout London we visited on behalf of DS2 and his long term, debilitating reflux. Can't remember now if he specialised in gastric problems or was just kind and calm and good at his job, but he stands out among the many.

Also see if you can join the 'living With Reflux' Facebook page. It's brill. Lots of peeps can give advice on different types of milk and meds. Ranitidine not working then baby might need something stronger. Also not pooing regularly can make pain worse. They maybe able to give lactulose if constipated (not sure if ok for 7 month old). Beware of gaviscon causing constipation.

We are under chelsea and westminister hospital for gastro they are kess know than the big childrens hospital but they have the biggest gastro ward and it is their only speciality really and surgical.

When you take your child to the pediatrician, consider asking about Hirschsprung's Disease as well, just for completeness. It is rare, (and treatable), but can cause similar symptoms.

our local hospital has an instant referal unit...gp can phone the unit and you can be seen the same day....thats what happened to my grand daughter when she was vomiting and not putting weight on at 6 weeks old

Have heard people going and sitting in A&E too under these kinds of circumstances but would def ring paed and explain that Ranitidine not working and you need appt. may need omeprazole if very bad
