AIBU to think the Octonauts have sold out?

I.e. they keep introducing new Gups just so they can sell the toys to kids?

Ds was very into Octonauts a few years back so, over a period of time, we got him the whole fleet - Gups A, B,C,D, E and X plus the Octopod and all the characters, as they came out. Now he's 6 and suddenly into Octonauts again so he asked me to Google image search Gups...there are blimming thousands! He went through all the pictures and wrote a long list of all the ones he doesn't have but he's not getting them a few days before Christmas!

Is it just me or is this cynical marketing? They don't need all those Gups for 8 Octonauts! Where do they even put them? The world has gone mad. ...

DS1 (5.10) has a suddenly renewed interest in the octonauts and one of the new gups is top of his Christmas list! I thought we had moved on to Dragon Riders of Berk and Danger Mouse. But Captain Barnacles has somehow lured him back in...

Ds loves this.

He I has quite a few and is getting more for Christmas. We got the octopod for £12 off eBay in November.

Yanbu but it's no different to any other kids programme, where they sell toys associated with it.

Ds other favourite is paw patrol. That stuff was difficult to get hold of.
