aibu to wish parents wouldn't cough up and spit out phlegm in the school playground??

I saw a mother do this at my son's school just now. I picked her up on it and she just sort of laughed and shook her head. Am I being unreasonable to expect a grown adult to spit in to a tissue if they need to spit in this circumstance?

YANBU but perhaps you are a fighter of lost causes.

SoftBlocks Tue 15-Dec-15 09:04:29

YANBU so disgusting.

originalmavis Tue 15-Dec-15 09:04:43

Bleugh. That is nasty. Snorting out snot is also boakworthy.

DickDewy Tue 15-Dec-15 09:07:10

OMG! That is so disgusting!

Flumplet Tue 15-Dec-15 09:07:46

It seems like it. I think I need to wind my neck in - this isn't the sort of area where one can feel free to demonstrate any sort of moral compass without fear of repercussion. I see at least one thing at the school gates every day that enrages me, perhaps actually I am being unreasonable expecting other people to have the same standards as me. But as the mother of a 4 year old who I KNOW rolls around on that playground, seeing that this morning pissed me off exponentially.

Never seen parents do this. I don't have that skill, I'm unable to blast out phlegm at top speed so what happens to me is that I get sick a little bit, if I'm caught out without a tissue.

I suspect that in east europe it's not considered as disgusting as it is here.

Arkhamasylum Tue 15-Dec-15 09:09:22

You're the least amount of unreasonable that anyone's ever been, I think. That's revolting.

Flumplet Tue 15-Dec-15 09:11:50

myrtlefox it was actually a Romanian lady, and I agree that in Eastern Europe it's not considered as disgusting but when in Rome and all that!! (oh god, am I going to get flamed for that??)

Caboodle Tue 15-Dec-15 09:13:46

Y are so NBU.

originalmavis Tue 15-Dec-15 09:13:59

People are disgusting! At my sons dojo so many parents march across the mats with their shoes on. Not just disrespectful but yuk - thetr arr bare footed kids running about and rolling face down on these mats!

I have been known to say 'I suppose you never stand in dog poo and float above the pavements?'

Flumplet Tue 15-Dec-15 09:18:16

That's pretty grim mavis!!

Chillyegg Tue 15-Dec-15 09:23:55

Yanbu that's disgusting! Eurgh! Can you speak to someone at reception about it. That's really disgusting! I hate snot and spit though makes me sick.

KinkyAfro Tue 15-Dec-15 09:24:50

I work in construction and am site based, it's disgusting when you have to side step massive oysters just to get into work. There's signs up everywhere but people still do it, and THAT noise they make when they do....that exactly makes me retch.

Dirty bastards

KinkyAfro Tue 15-Dec-15 09:25:48

Random exactly in there for some reason confused

Flumplet Tue 15-Dec-15 09:31:21

I might speak to reception but I feel like if I do that for every single thing i see that pisses me off at the school gates they will get pretty sick of me and I'll get a reputation for being a busy body!!

NoahVale Tue 15-Dec-15 09:32:53

i heard a cyclist do this yesterday, gross, I remarked on his grossness <<out of sight>>

NoahVale Tue 15-Dec-15 09:33:26

i would like to see the letter that the head teacher has to send about the gobbing in the playground

MyrtleFox Tue 15-Dec-15 09:40:44

Flumplet, I hope you're not flamed. In Asia it is disgusting to blow your nose whereas we would offer somebody a tissue.

I am in Ireland and the timing shocks me sometimes, not that Irish men are always paragons of decency in public but I can't fathom that they would choose the precise moment somebody is watching them to cough up phlegm. So if you're flamed, I'll hold your coat.

MyrtleFox Tue 15-Dec-15 09:41:42

my point about Asia being different things disgust different cultures. somebody who's just turbo jetted phlegm on to the ground might look at me blowing my nose and feel put off their breakfast.

Scarletforya Tue 15-Dec-15 09:44:03

She ^ laughed^ fshock

Dirty, filthy animal. There's just no excuse.

WorraLiberty Tue 15-Dec-15 09:47:10

I've said this before but a few years ago, the HT at my DC's old infant school saw a man cough up and spit out in the playground.

She marched into her office, then reappeared with a paper towel and told him to wipe it up! fgrin

He looked totally embarrassed but he did it.

Aeroflotgirl Tue 15-Dec-15 09:48:45

It is absolutely disgusting, and can carry diseases, YANBU at all, that is my bugbare. Yes I have had phlem when I am out and about, but I swallow it, if I don't have a tissue. Yuck envy

WorraLiberty Tue 15-Dec-15 09:48:53

MyrtleFox, you blowing your nose wouldn't put anyone else at risk of catching your germs, as long as you binned your tissue.

Gobbing out in public is utterly disgusting and especially where children play.

There is no excuse from it no matter where you come from.

Aeroflotgirl Tue 15-Dec-15 09:50:09

Fantastic worraliberty, the same for people who wee or vomit on the floor during a night out, disgusting pigs.
