I saw a mother do this at my son's school just now. I picked her up on it and she just sort of laughed and shook her head. Am I being unreasonable to expect a grown adult to spit in to a tissue if they need to spit in this circumstance?

It seems like it. I think I need to wind my neck in - this isn't the sort of area where one can feel free to demonstrate any sort of moral compass without fear of repercussion. I see at least one thing at the school gates every day that enrages me, perhaps actually I am being unreasonable expecting other people to have the same standards as me. But as the mother of a 4 year old who I KNOW rolls around on that playground, seeing that this morning pissed me off exponentially.

Never seen parents do this. I don't have that skill, I'm unable to blast out phlegm at top speed so what happens to me is that I get sick a little bit, if I'm caught out without a tissue.

I suspect that in east europe it's not considered as disgusting as it is here.

You're the least amount of unreasonable that anyone's ever been, I think. That's revolting.

I have been known to say 'I suppose you never stand in dog poo and float above the pavements?'

I work in construction and am site based, it's disgusting when you have to side step massive oysters just to get into work. There's signs up everywhere but people still do it, and THAT noise they make when they do....that exactly makes me retch.

Dirty bastards

Flumplet, I hope you're not flamed. In Asia it is disgusting to blow your nose whereas we would offer somebody a tissue.

I am in Ireland and the timing shocks me sometimes, not that Irish men are always paragons of decency in public but I can't fathom that they would choose the precise moment somebody is watching them to cough up phlegm. So if you're flamed, I'll hold your coat.

my point about Asia being different things disgust different cultures. somebody who's just turbo jetted phlegm on to the ground might look at me blowing my nose and feel put off their breakfast.

I've said this before but a few years ago, the HT at my DC's old infant school saw a man cough up and spit out in the playground.

She marched into her office, then reappeared with a paper towel and told him to wipe it up! Xmas Grin

He looked totally embarrassed but he did it.

It is absolutely disgusting, and can carry diseases, YANBU at all, that is my bugbare. Yes I have had phlem when I am out and about, but I swallow it, if I don't have a tissue. Yuck Envy

MyrtleFox, you blowing your nose wouldn't put anyone else at risk of catching your germs, as long as you binned your tissue.

Gobbing out in public is utterly disgusting and especially where children play.

There is no excuse from it no matter where you come from.
