To think I'm a celebrity

Has gone too far this time. Firstly we had lady C burn a poor beetle alive by throwing it on the camp fire. And tonight a spider has been eaten alive during an eating trial. This to me is animal cruelty.

A lot of the critters are alive in the eating trials.

I don't agree with it at all, it is cruel and unecessary.

The beetle was terrible. Lady C should have been hauled over the coals for that one. But she only did it to wind up Tony as he was admiring it.

Cruel and certainly not entertaining

Fully agree.
. The jungle is their home. If they're going to spend time there at least have respect for the creatures.

It's fucking grim.

I agree I am love celebrity but eating things alive sits very uncomfortably with me

I've never watched it, but if someone truly did through a live beetle on the fire I hope they were immediately sacked or disqualified, or what ever happens there.

That is disgusting behaviour.

Yep, horrible tone to it. Cruel to creatures and the participants. Can't watch it.

ShamefulPlaceMarker · 06/12/2015 21:55

It is unnessesary, I can't stand that show.
But if it makes you feels any better... Insects don't have a central nervous system like we do so don't feel any pain..... I foogled this after feeling really bed chopping a slug in half with the lawnmower!

I'm vegan.

Of all the cruelty in the world, I couldn't get worked up about the insects here tbh. Picking up of rats by the tail is very cruel though.

Most people in the uk are total hypocriticts when it comes to animal cruelty.

It does make me feel a bit better, Shameful. It was playing on my mind thinking about those poor creatures in pain so the fact they didn't feel pain is reasurring. But its still upsetting none the less.

I'd have no problem killing a roach in my home, so I haven't got a leg to stand on on this particular moral issue.

dont really care about the insects to be honest

considering half of MN have a spider phobia judging by numerous threads on here i really think its ott to be championing save the insects

what happens to the spider that the phobic cant stand,do they fling ou the window or do they kill it

TheoriginalLEM · 06/12/2015 22:18

This is why i don't watch the shite (well one of the reasons). Ok, im not going to get too excited by killing insects (although spiders aren't insects of course). But the thing where they use rats and snakes............boils my piss. And bear grylls, he is a cunt too.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 06/12/2015 22:19

Well I don't have a phobia of spiders, Seaside. And even if I did. I wouldn't want to see one hurt.

That spider wasn't alive, even with very good editing it was killed and probably off camera.

do people not put ant powder down and then the ant has a slow death

dont people swat a fly or wasp

dont people use bate/traps for rats/mice a slow painful death

and here's plenty more examples

i really dont see how you cant be a hypocrite if you use these methods

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 06/12/2015 22:21

Nor have I ever killed an insect Seaside or do you prefer Sally. ?
So I don't believe my views are hypocritical.

Shamefulplacemarker - i really hope you are wrong about insects not having a CNS, because otherwise my PhD based on the CNS of the fruitfly is a work of fiction!

Insects absolutely do react to noxious stimuli, its a survival thing and many of their escape behaviours are reflexes. Do they feel pain? well, they react to it, but do they "feel" it in the way we do? Jury is out of that one.

Most people in the uk are total hypocriticts when it comes to animal cruelty Agree with this entirely.

I'm also a vegan. I do think it's cruel and unnecessary to eat insects alive. But only as cruel and unnecessary as it is to slaughter cows, train animals to perform in circuses, kill spiders in your home, etc etc.

I thought you were asking if you were unreasonable to think you are a celebrity. I was rather hoping for details about some newly famous person, and then we could reassure him/her that yes, he/she was indeed a celebrity.

Sorry, as you were.

I thought the panic pit trial Ferne did was atrocious. I was on the cusp of making an OFCOM complaint about it. She was shaking and obviously terrified - who wouldn't be locked in a coffin like pit with a snake wrapped round your neck and crawling over your face. When she said afterwards she was in shock, I thought "not surprised if you have PTSD" after that.

It was beyond a normal "endurance" type of trial and human abuse for entertainment. It was disgraceful.

op so how do you control ants etc in your garden/home ??

Report
cakedup · 06/12/2015 22:35

seasidesally I'm not the OP obviously but as a vegan, I don't kill any creature unnecessarily. So the odd insect in the house does not bother me at all and I let them get on with their business or put them outside before the cats get to them. I don't, for example, kill wasps or bees just in case they might sting me. But, yes, I've had an ant infestation in my house before and unfortunately had to use ant powder, because I would consider that necessary.

I am disgusted and shall be complaining. I find tarantulas fascinating, people keep them as pets. Needless animal cruelty, and thank god I don't watch the shite show.
