help! I am really worried

I will probably make an opticians appointment but wanted to know if anyone else has had this and if it is normal or anything to worry about

I wear contact lenses but also glasses (when not wearing contacts) but for the last few weeks I have only worn my glasses as my eyes just feel more comfortable without lenses in. anyway yesterday I wore my contacts to go out for the first time in weeks and once they were in, i noticed that my vision was not as good as when I wear my glasses. when I came home I put my glasses back on and my vision was better again

now I am scared to wear my contacts again

I suffer from health anxiety anyway and my vision is so poor (-5.5 in both eyes, it seems to get worse every time I have an eye test) I honestly worry one day I will be totally blind

How old were the lenses?
I have disposables and the vision is worse when they near throw away time.
Did you have them stored in the same solution for all that time? They should never be left in the same stuff for more than a week.
I've found if I'm tired my eyes dry out and my lenses are uncomfortable.

I've also found it takes a while for my eyes to adjust from lenses to glasses and everything can be a bit weird for a day or so.

I wouldn't freak just yet. The fact your vision was better with glasses means your eyes themselves are probably fine.

It maybe that your prescription has slightly changed, and it's just more obvious in your lenses. If you can see fine with your glasses, I can't see it being anything too serious. Go to the opticians and get your prescription checked.

It could be dry eyes? It's so simple to book an opticians appointment and then you would know. I really don't understand why if you're worried you wouldn't just do this straight away.

How old are they?

they are daily disposables so brand new, just opened the pack and put them straight in :(

well, i got them a few weeks ago from the opticians (pick them up monthly)

I'm guessing your vision has changed - it's always much more obvious with contact lenses due to proximity to the eye.

In the meantime, though, go get some dry eye eyedrops from the pharmacy and use them every few hours, just incase your eyes are too dry and it's stopping your contacts working properly. The sprays are brilliant but ££, and regularly-applied drops will work too.

If it's a new box, have you checked that they are actually the correct prescription? Perhaps they have given you somebody else's lenses?

I wouldn't necessarily worry about eyesight at that level. I've worn glasses since I was 8 with my vision getting steadily worse, and it is now lower than the levels you quote. However, I have very good vision with glasses - I tried contacts but never really got on with them. In fact, now that I am ancient and long sight is kicking in, my vision has actually improved slightly.

It could be the wrong lenses, a duff batch, your eyesight needs testing as they have changed slightly.

More than likely something quite normal than sinister.

I honestly wouldn't worry too much, I have used contacts for years (monthlies and dailies) and as long as you use them correctly they're safe medical devices.
I've lost count of the times my eyes have felt weird, bit blurry, bit dry, trotted off to the optician only to be told everything is fine.

Not minimalizing the fact that there are serious eye conditions, infections etc, that can be caused by contact lenses, and please make an opticians appointment to set your mind at rest, if you feel the need. Only you know how your eyes are feeling.

This happened to me one time and it turned out that there were actually two contact lenses stuck together in the pack I had. I had put both in my eye.

I've also mixed up the lenses for the right and left eye before now (different prescriptions)

Its probably just a slight change in prescription, even a slight change can feel bad.

your lenses and glasses are not the exact same prescription.

My vision is always better in glasses but I miss the range of vision that I get from lenses. I am a -7 btw.

I was told and do find that my vision is never as good with contacts as with glasses - has always been that way

Slight change in prescription. Slightly dry eyes because you're a bit tired. A bit of sleep stuck under the lense. Mixing up the lenses if you have different prescriptions. You've been a bit rough and damaged or scratched them before they're in.

Lots of reasons op, nothing to panic about.

I find the opposite though - I have a very high prescription (-10) and my vision in contact lenses is much better than with glasses. My vision is perfect with contacts but I only just (by the skin of my teeth) meet driving standard when I have my glasses on, even though the prescription is new and correct.

don't make an appointment - visit an opitician as an emergency and they will see you straight away

How old are you? Mine got to -9 and -10 before they stopped when I was 32 !!

my eyes have gone from -1 in each eye when I was 20 to what they are now, it just scares me how much they have deteriorated..i wish they would stop like yours have!

I am considering laser surgery as well as glasses and contacts are so fiddly and a pain

got opticians apt on Saturday anyway.

Had this once with one new lenses took it back and they gave me a replacement which worked well. Box was right etc but suspect that lenses was wrong. If with lensmail you can get 2 replacement lenses were ywar free. Ive only needed lenses replaces twice in x many years. The other time was lenses was tore as the top had been sealed onto it.

I had laser surgery for -7 and -8 plus astigmatism. Best decision I ever made. My astigmatism made contact lens vision poorer over time as my lenses didn't fit smoothly.

Paddington that's interesting...I have astigmatism too, I am truly gifted in the eyes department :D maybe that's why. who did you go with if you don't mind me asking, and also if its not too cheeky what did it cost?

I had laser surgery too. Best decision ever, my eyes did revert to -0.75 but considering it was -10 that was a result (also have astigmatism and squint!!!) cost £3000 6 years ago.

how long did it take for your eyes to go to 0.75 though? and does that mean you have to wear glasses again?

my friend had hers done 4 years ago now and hers is still perfect

3k tho eek ...suppose its worth it though, I have prob spent way more than that on glasses and contacts over the years
