They are so expensive and for 4 weeks?

Is it scroogeish to go without?

have you got kids

Chilledmonkeybrains Tue 01-Dec-15 19:13:35

Are you having people over? Do you have kids?

we have decided not to this year. We are decorating, and the house is a tip, and getting it up and putting it down again would just be extra chores, when we could send the time and energy painting another wall.

Have children but one isn't bothered by Christmas (doesn't like it) and the other is a baby. Not having people over.

My aunties doesn't, but then she is out most of the time. A proper social butterfly.

Her and her dp, her son and is wife all go out somewhere posh for Christmas dinner too.

I wouldn't not have a tree though tbh.

Will you have other decorations up?

Instead of a tree I once made hanging hoops out of coat hangers, decorated with evergreens, ribbons, baubles etc. They looked nothing like Blue Peter advent wreaths bloomin' fantastic actually and noone noticed lack of tree.

The year I had DD near Xmas I bought a small fibre optic tree and just put that up instead. Cheap and cheerful.
Alternatively, buy a fake one in January sale.

I love real trees, but as I am on my own, it seems very extravagant to have one just for myself: so I think it's fine not to, if that suits you.

I don't do xmas, but if I have to because people are coming over, I go all out and get some pound shop baubles and stack them in a vase or on a silver bowl thing.

It's storage that's the problem with an artificial tree, and a real one would be a real hassle.

I think I will put some fairy lights up and leave the tree. I really want to enjoy decorating but it costs too much.

We're not having a tree because we have no money to buy one, and no space in which to put one.
My DM is driving me round the bend though, making out DS is hard done to because we're not having a tree.
Even though she knows that literally the only place it could go in our tiny house is in the middle of the living room floor, taking up the whole room - leaving no room for DS to play in.
And no, we don't have a table/shelf/mantlepiece that a small tree could go on. There is no space at all, sadly. Much to her disgust.

I've got a pop up tree, it takes seconds to put up, the baubles are already on and it's box is tiny so no issue with storing it either.

pullofthemoon Tue 01-Dec-15 19:33:30

What is SIOB? grin Or a typo for 'sob'?

Take no notice of your mum flowers

We didn't do a tree the year before last and the inlaws often don't have one but putting up cards on string, a few fairy lights and some baubles or something in a clear glass vase are surprisingly festive!

FuzzyWizard Tue 01-Dec-15 19:41:24

I also have a pop up tree. It's small, takes no time to put up and is pre-decorated. I'm not even bothering to put it up this year though I must admit. I'm abroad from the 19th to the 29th this year and don't have kids. I couldn't not have it up if I was here over the Christmas period.

When I was young we lived in a tiny flat, and we had a wall hung small tree. I think it went in a corner. Very useful for those with little floor space

Sharp intake of breath.

Runningupthathill82 Tue 01-Dec-15 20:05:35

Ooooh that's a nice idea Viola - never seen those. Will have a search.

Ok branch from tree, or twigs - plain with a few baubles or covered in glitter etc...

pullofthemoon Tue 01-Dec-15 20:12:29

Utterly gorgeous but mine would be hopeless and I really don't have the time!
