"Mental Rental" with the catchphrase of a 'a mental rate for rental mate' and to top it off nicely in case the meaning isn't clear their company logo is a brain Hmm

Mental of or relating to the brain/mind. So actually a picture of a brain is appropriate. I'm sure you can find something more interesting to be offended by

Oh dear, you really haven't thought it through have you OP?

In fact I must tell my DC's teachers to stop teaching them how to do mental maths Grin

Gotta love the irony of your post content juxtaposed with your user name Smile

I can see where you are coming from, though. "Mental" is of course a pejorative term used against people with mental health problems.

But the word "mental" is not directly offensive when used in this context, IMO

Well yes the pic of a brain is appropriate to "mental", but in what way is the rental or rates thereof "mental" in a related to the brain way?

Maybe they are using the mental in the context of 'the first thing you think of'.

Maybe they mean it for 'crazy' prices.

I don't find it offensive, just not very good.

I keep meaning to change my user name back as this one was 'given' to me in a fit of rage by another poster. It was such a spectacular insult I decided to wear it with pride!

Not desperately offensive, no but then I don't find 'cuntycowface' offensive either. Stones, glasshouses etc etc.

Anyway I never said I was offended by it just think it's a poorly judge name IMO.

I would like to think they thought of mental being in the context of cerebral and intellectual but really just have images of a couple of blokes sat in the pub scribbling on a beer mat and saying "right what rhymes with rental? erm bental, dental, fental, lental........"

I'm surprised by these responses. I think it's in very poor taste. We all know "mental" is used primarily as an insult (with the rare exception eg mental maths).

It's a shit name anyway, but yes I think it's inappropriate.

My comment about your username was lighthearted, btw

Well I must admit for a minute there i thought if AnyFucker is suggesting my name is in poor taste then it MUST be bad! Grin

And op didn't say it was "offensive" just that it was "in poor taste". Don't see how she can be thought to BU. It's hardly in good taste is it? (That's a clunky sentence, sorry)

'Lentil rental', the hirer's ethical choice. I like it Grin

"Mental health" is a very commonly used term

Mental effort
Mental attitude
Mental picture
Mental power
Mental development
Mental breakdown
Mental state

Not really "rare" and not necessarily offensive. Although I dunno why I am giving it any mental space (see what I did there) because I think it is a bit borderline and a lot shit. So there Smile

It's a shit name, I'm a bit "mental" but I'm not offended.

Ps- cuntycowfacemonkey, please explain how you got this name from another poster... I quite like it how do I get one similar?
Pps- I like your insult name more than carcass Grin

Why do you think it's in poor taste? Confused

I am 99.9% certain they played around with the word lentil for a good hour or so before moving onto the next letter in the alphabet TheLamb

Yeah. But when they are saying "Mental rates" they are not using "mental" in a cerebral sense, are they? they are using it to mean "crazy".

That said - Crazy/mental. I don't find them particularly pejorative myself.

OK well obviously going by this thread you all think I'm an easily offended delicate flower so I loathe to explain that the reason I got given such a glorious insult was because I pulled someone up on some really awful comments they were making about people with SEN (and it was bad, they got deleted for it).

Actual I think the full insult was "you stupid fuck cunt cow face monkey" my old user name had the word monkey so monkey was not part of the insult. Always feel I should clarify that Confused

See no dentist would call their practice "Mental Dental" and assume that the world would view it as the cerebral choice for all your oral hygiene needs would they?
