AIBU?

In thinking there has been a massive cover up in the death of little Poppi Worthington ?? [Upsetting content warning added by MNHQ]

I've namechanged for this as i'm local to the town this baby is from.

I cannot believe the huge fuck ups that have occured in investigating this childs death, this child had broken bones and other injuries indicating a serious sexual assault......no clear way of knowing as all evidence had been destroyed by the time police decided to investigate 9 months later. I cannot believe how little this has been reported in the media now the case is coming to court.

To top it all, nobody is being prosecuted for this babies death, not for the injuries sustained. She's dead, that's it. How can this be ?? I don't understand how this is able to happen ??!

I've linked one of the least, distressing articles. This really is one of the most upsetting cases i've heard of. I cannot believe that someone is in all probability getting away with the murder of this little girl. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/child-protection/12019722/Poppi-Worthington-Toddler-could-have-been-sexually-assaulted-before-unexplained-death-hearing-told.html

Urgh. There's a conclusion of a not so dissimilar case come to light in Sunderland, this week, too. Mum answered the door when baby of 5 months was in the bath and she died of the injuries sustained when she fell during that time. Both parents known to SS and father with a history of violence towards children - baby had injured ribs when she died. My gut feeling that if a 5 month old died after being left alone in a bath, it would be from drowning.

In these cases, there always seems to be such a minefield in separating the unforseeable from the utterly predictable but so many things that have gone on are pretty jaw dropping.

From that article it seems like everyone involved with the inquest agrees there was an assault but doesn't want to actually say it, why?

Are the police trying to protect themselves or what? Poor little baby, may she rest in peace.

YaNbu.
Sleep peacefully baby Poppi (a beautiful name for a beautiful baby).
Someone is definately responsible for that poor tiny innocent trusting adorable baby's death.
You look at babies and children and you see all that trust and wonder in their eyes. Why begs thd question. How could anyone possibly hurt them.

Animals like these should not be having kids.

An ambulance technician raised suspicions when she reprted that the babies bottom felt 'slimey'. Why werent swabs taken as a basic ??

It sounds to me as though the.police didnt have the ability to think the unthinkable and as a result didnt do their job properly.

Cover up as in the people who should have been investigating it didn't because they had some connection to the way she died, or the police were trying to cover up the fact that they'd fucked up the investigation royally and hoped nobody would notice?

It is odd that there haven't been headlines in the media at all since 2012, and looks like the only reason it's come out is because a judge was looking at other children in the family.

Almost as though Poppi didn't matter, which is what the state is there for isn't it? To catch children who fall through the net because parents aren't caring for them.

I've only just had a look on google about it and it says there wasn't any evidence for anyone to be prosecuted, but 13 month old babies don't have broken legs and 'suspected acute injuries in the region of the anus' (whatever the fuck that means, how can they be only suspected if they were acute??) as a rule. How were they allowed to bury her 2 months after her death and say there was nothing wrong in the way she died?

Mmmm, very disturbing.

How awful, poor baby. Like you I'm baffled as to how nobody has been held accountable for her death.

'It sounds to me as though the.police didnt have the ability to think the unthinkable and as a result didnt do their job properly.'

This site says 'Against national protocol no senior investigating officer immediately attended the home to ensure evidence was preserved properly, while no witness statements were taken until September 2013' so no witness statements until 9 months after she'd died. That can't be right can it? Surely you have to take them straight away??

Looks more like they didn't think anything of it at all let alone the unthinkable.

Keepmoving. They're not animals, though. Animals are caring and loving and would not hurt their babies in this way. Animals would certainly show some people how to care for, love, nurture, protect, love and attend to their babies.

ilive you are right. Actually I'm sorry to compare them to animals, animals are loving creatures. I too feel so upset about what this poor darling must have gone through and everyone has failed her and still no justice.

Lexi. Animals often eat their babies when there is something not right with them. I suppose to stop them from further suffering. Tgey don't do it with the intent of being cruel

It hasnt been reported until now because the media were unable to, they took it to the high court to get the restrictions lifted.

For some reason local reporting seems to be much more in depth for some reason.

It really is the most hideous and upsetting series of fuck ups i've heard for some time.

Someone should start a petition to get this properly investigated. I'm sure if it circulated on FB and twitter lots would sign. I would.

I'm a teacher and can well believe that something like this has happened. Social services and the police (in my very uneducated, uninfluential opinion) are absolutely shocking and (again in my experience) really just couldn't give a shit. Don't seem to follow any sort of procedure, yet hide behind it if questioned, don't share information across agencies as promised after Victoria Klimbie (sp) and generally disregard evidence and statements actually from the child. I'm not surprised, unfortunately, that there are things happening that we don't care about because they are disgusting, in my opinion. I regularly despair against the whole system because, in my experience, it is not there to help the child, just cover up as much as possible.

It sickens me on a daily basis.

Again, all my opinion...
