Coat gone 'missing' from pre school

My daughters coat has mysteriously dissappeared from her nursery. The nursery say a parent or someone by have taken it home by accident. I'm totally WTF! I've written her name in it so fingers crossed it come back. Anyone else have any experience of this. I'm livid.

It happens. Mine have both lost items this week already, although one was wrong thing taken home so returned

Maybe someone like granny collected child and put wrong coat on if it was on different child's peg for some reason ( fallen off and someone hung on closest peg). It's likely to be returned

Sew in name tags on everything hopefully it will be a mistake.

Can nursery do a group email to parents to check?

This is why my DD had a cheapy supermarket coat for nursery, and a nice coat for home!

I'd love to say it gets better at school but it really doesn't. My DD lost a shoe after getting changed for PE once, it never did show up

It happens, that's why it is best not to send anything expensive or loved into school or nursery.

Happens all the time. With school uniform, I've been known to send a child home with the mistaken child's jacket so they don't freeze, then get them to swap back the next day.

At one point most of the girls in dd's nursery group had the same Clark's shoes snd same Sainsbury's coat. Even when labelled, mix ups are inevitable, but labelled stuff usually finds its way home. It gets worse with school uniform.

It happens. Check lost and found. We found missing stuff there even when it had names on it.

Hardly unusual, DS1 has various things (some of which have been returned) in nursery.

Sadly this is something you have to get used too and don't send expensive things into nursery / school. You'll get a lot of things back, though not always.

The worst one is packed lunch boxes. Pupil thinks they've lost it. Parent buys a new one. Box (complete with rotting foid) sits there for months until school have a clear out (usually end of term). Somebody brave has to open them/check for names. Yuck!

I second that it will happen a lot.

My mum once took the brownies to the swimming pool for a trip. One girl managed to get all the way back home, on the bus, before she realised she had forgotten her.......shoes!

I had my bag pinched at nursery. I had left it on the pushchair while I took dd to the loo. The place was full of other mums, no outsiders could have come in. It only had some tissues and credit cards in it which I cancelled straight away. I never found out who took it.

Your dds coat may well just have been stolen. There are thieves around, and some of them have children.

My DD once lost her pe shorts. Had all the class looking for them. They went missing. Teacher informed me at end of day. When I was helping her change for a bath that night we found them. She was still wearing them!

Oh Lulu. This is the beginning of a very long and frustrating road ahead. I have had swimming towels reappear after 4 YEARS. They were named.

You cannot be WTF about missing clothes. You will go insane before your child finishes primary school.

Ds2 came home with odd shoes once, one of his shoes and another boys 2 sizes bigger.
Luckily it was named and we had a class list so the mum and we did a school gate swap the next morning.

Ds1 (13) seems to be constantly being told to "Check lost property!!!"

It will happen a lot over the years. Much of it will come back, if it's named, but some won't.

It doesn't get any better as they get older. My 13 year old left his school shoes under a tree after cricket. We never did get those back.

It is totally outwith your control, no matter how much you label things. Small children don't check labels, or something falls off a peg then another child accidentally kicks it, eventually it ends up on the other side of the room. I've had many a happy time crawling about cloakrooms looking under benches for a child's lost shoe (because they can't walk home with one shoe on). You'd be amazed how far a single shoe can get in a day. I've had pupils with the same shoes go home with one of each others' shoes, even though they're 2 totally different sizes!

DD is at sixth form. She has had 2 hoodies go missing already this term.

My yr7 dc lost a whole PE kit (£60 worth of kit!!) for a whole week. We just found it yesterday. Actually a week isn't too bad - last year the kit went missing (thankfully minus trainers and the very expensive rugby top) for a whole term.

Stuff gets put on the wrong peg, picked up by mistake, dropped on the floor and then kicked to one side etc etc etc It very nearly always turns up again though eventually

Here's a tip. Do your utmost to buy a coat in such a bright and or lurid colour that it is unlikely to replicated in the cloakroom. Then you can be livid.

Further tip. Ask if you can visit the cloakroom approximately 20 mins after the kids have gone into their classroom. What you will see is mostly a sea of coats, and other possessions gradually sliding down the wall but mostly a floor of "practical" and utterly identical if you are 5 of navy and black anoraks.

It's the equivalent of letting 60 x 5 yr olds loose at the airport to select "their" suitcase from a carousel of almost identical black wheely suitcases.

It's even worse if there's a uniform coat. Then you are truly f**ked.
