AIBU?

not to want to get my hands dirty putting petrol in?

In the olden days, I used to drive my car into the petrol station and someone would come out, fill her up and wipe the windscreen. Plus if I said I was going on a long journey they would check my tyre pressure and water etc.

I would like to do this now, but it appears not to be an option anymore. I would pay a few extra on the gallon obviously, as I pay for many other services in life.

Am I alone in this?

Sounds a bit precious to me tbh. Buy some disposable gloves?

I thought garages had disposable gloves next to the pump.

The olden days are long gone, check your own tyre pressure/water etc.

Most petrol stations have disposable gloves for your convenience.... Right next to the hand towels

How are you getting dirty hands?!

I would probably pay for this service too ( panicking about when I last checked tyre pressure now)

You need to move to the Channel Islands, though I fear self-service has taken a hold there as well.

Perhaps you should employ a driver?

Tyre pressure checking is v important as is oil checking.

I put a glove on but maybe you could move to rural Wales? :)

When I first passed my test the garage near my house always put the petrol in for you so I always went there. When it closed I had to phone my boyfriend to come and show me how to put petrol in the car as I was about to run out and didn't know how to do itBlush

Really?!
Putting petrol in is part of car ownership, no I wouldn't be willing to pay more for someone to do such a simple task for me. Hmm

In about 1982 there was a garage near where I grew up where someone came out and put the petrol in. Quaint.

I wouldn't even need to wear disposable gloves, I don't have a manicure and I can handle a pump. I just would like someone to do it for me.

There are tonnes of things I could do for myself, but I choose to pay someone the going rate to do it for me. I just wondered why this isn't one of them.

It would also make it much easier when you have children in the car.

I love the smell of petrol on my hands. Reminds me of childhood.

Drive to Sedbergh, very north west of the Yorkshire Dales. There's a petrol station there where they still fill up for you. May not be a practical option for every day though, depending upon where you live...

What would be the going rate for a petrol pump attendant to come and do something that you could easily do yourself?

I am a huge fan of Pay at the Pump that way you don't have to speak to anyone at all.

Well, DIY and maintenance is part of home ownership, but there isn't actually anything wrong with paying someone to do DIY is there? Or maybe there is.

Sparklingbrook is right too, very important to check pressure. I've just done jury service and the car involved in a serious accident had one tyre with low pressure. It was quite possibly a factor in the accident.

YY tyre pressure is very quick and easy to do as well.

I can do tyre pressure/fill up with petrol and check oil but I can't do wallpapering or gloss painting sadly. Sad

We used a petrol station that did just that only last month. It was on a Greek island though, so less convenient than North Yorkshire I fear.
