DH looking after kids with headphones on (trivial)

All I wanted to do is go out with my friends for a few drinks. I rarely get to go out! Got back to find bloody chain on front door, so I'm locked out of house!! Rang door bell and really loud home phone for 10 mins! Nothing!!! It's 10.30pm at night and extremely windy cos there's a flipping storm so I'm starting to panic. Eventually I ring his mobile. He answered. He was upstairs with his headphones on so he couldn't hear me banging on door/door bell/land line. House is not big!! I got annoyed saying that he should at least be able to hear kids (seeing as he is looking after them.) he said they r asleep so no need to listen and if there is a problem they will come and get him! FFs I rarely go out. He's just really annoying.

Why did he put the chain on the door?

Seems odd to put the chain on the door, knowing you'd be coming home. Why would he need headphones on if youre out and the kids are asleep? I'd quite honestly be wondering what he was doing that he didn't want you to catch him.

Hmm @ Tigger

Glad you got in op!

He said he can't remember putting chain on and said he must have put it on accidentally. Good point. I hadn't thought about that he may have been doing something he didn't want me to see. Like what ?

How would you accidently put the chain on the door?

He was obviously masturbating whilst wearing your underwear. Hmm

Sounds to me like you're being punished.

So, therefore, do it more!

Report
RealityCheque · 18/11/2015 00:08

Yes. Clearly a punishment. While cross dressing and masturbating.

I'll wager he was also watching porn whilst cleaning the loos with a bog brush and eating pre-prepared food.

Bloody hell I can't remember the last time I saw a trivial post on MN about a man doing something annoying yet simple without people suggesting he's an abuser or cheater. Where do people imagine these things up?!

He was probably just watching YouTube videos and being a numpty. No big deal

Reality don't forget the part where he was helping his mistress out the back door

I would put the chain on not thinking. He was probably being daft rather than being up to no good.

whois · 18/11/2015 00:25

And considerately wearing headphones so he didn't disturb the kids with his music.

He was masturbating, using your underwear, looking at she-males online and, worst of all, she probably told an online call-girl that you're a CIS woman.

Dp often teases me for 'locking him in' (I.e. doing all the locks like the house is empty) when I go out and he is there sometimes - I don't mean to, it's just such an ingrained habit when I leave the house.

It's not a problem as he has his keys so can still get out (and it's probably best I forget not to lock when he's there, rather than forgetting to lock when the house is empty).

For god sakes.

I put the chain on all the time. I often I don't know I have done it. It's just automatic.

Yanbu to be annoyed. How old are the kids. If the are toddlers or younger then really he shouldn't wear headphones. If the are older surely they will just come and get him?

Btw. I don't care if he was masturbating. He knows that wouldn't bother me!

Mumsnet at its finest! Husband absent mindlessly puts the chain on the door, so he must be doing something dodgy in the house.

Hmm

Some people on here honestly must go through life finding problems round every corner.

I always put the chain on by mistake its because it part of my nightly routine. Its fine when DP is away over night not so good when he is hammering the door down at 3am in the morning in the pissing rain.

OP how old are your children?

If they're over 18 months, then wearing headphones makes sense, I did, as a LP.

If he says that putting the chain on was an oversight, then accept it.

Arrange to go out again and if it happens again, talk about it.

I've lost count of the times I have locked dh out when I have gone on autopilot and locked everything up when going to bed. I do also wear headphones if watching videos on my phone in bed, the walls are thin and I don't want to disturb the kids. I have the baby monitor in my room which lights up when the baby wakes so no worries about not realising baby is crying.

I'm sure he just put the chain on whilst on auto pilot when going to bed. Annoying but pretty common I would imagine.

He opened it as soon as you rang his mobile. It would have been one of the first things I'd done.

He's watching porn and doesn't want the kids to hear the grunting and moaning.

ffs do people on mn have to post about every little thing their dh does? what next, he was wearing the wrong colour shoe laces.

Jibberjabberjooo · 20/11/2015 03:08

I've automatically put the chain on the door before and locked dh out.

It happens, talk about jumping to conclusions. Only on mn.
