I am not interested in Xmas adverts AT ALL, but I hate the breathy slow boring rendition of songs ( also in the x factor) which IMO generally ruins the original

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve Mon 16-Nov-15 16:11:52

Yanbu! We call it the simperizing at chez Wilkerson.grin

DannyFishcharge Mon 16-Nov-15 16:14:39

Oh god YANBU!!!!

squigglehead Mon 16-Nov-15 16:15:29

YANBU. I don't mind them, but they send DH apoplectic grin

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve Mon 16-Nov-15 16:21:02

I live not far from the jl call centre, I see lots of rocker/emo types trudging in there, always makes me smile grin

TheHiphopopotamus Mon 16-Nov-15 16:23:30

YANBU.

I fucking hate it. It's the vocal equivalent of bagpipes.

TimeToMuskUp Mon 16-Nov-15 16:23:51

DH went batshit when he heard it last week, and spent the evening twitching every time he thought of it.

I've bought it. Because simpery shite is my thing.

MorrisZapp Mon 16-Nov-15 16:25:13

Yes there's another one just now, think it's for Aldi. Faux cockney breathy girl sings classic song and kills it for fans.

Can't remember what the song is. Probably the Buzzcocks or something.

hangingoutattheendofmywick Mon 16-Nov-15 16:27:20

And they all sound like lily Allen.

Branleuse Mon 16-Nov-15 16:27:36

at one of my bodybalance classes they play a weird breathey version of the proclaimers 500 miles. Its terrible. It completely ruins my zen

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve Mon 16-Nov-15 16:28:27

Probably the Buzzcocks shock How very dare they!

frikadela01 Mon 16-Nov-15 16:31:36

God I hate this. It loses all the feeling of the song. A couple of years ago there was a breathy version of power of love by frankie goes to Hollywood. Completely lost the passion and emotion of what is a fantastic song.

OnlyHereForTheCamping Mon 16-Nov-15 16:33:13

The aldi one is from the sound of music, I quite like it. Julie Andrews often used to jam with the buzzcocks

My personal favourite is the simperising of 'you better shape up' from grease.

Booyaka Mon 16-Nov-15 16:34:11

YANBU!! I also hate the way they seem to think that these songs need 'Mummyising' because women over 30 couldn't possibly enjoy a song by people as hardcore, edgy and subversive as bloody Oasis unless they're set to a plinky plonk folksy nursery rhyme style sanitised back track. It makes me want to poke out my eyeballs.

tillytown Mon 16-Nov-15 16:36:07

YANBU, I hate it

KathyBeale Mon 16-Nov-15 16:37:15

Yes, yes, yes! I call it sixth-forming. I always think they sound like some wet blanket from the lower sixth at the school christmas concert.

Binkybix Mon 16-Nov-15 16:38:25

Yes!! Said this to DH last night. Insipid nonsense.

dannydyerismydad Mon 16-Nov-15 16:38:39

YANBU. Just awful.

loraflora Mon 16-Nov-15 16:38:48

YANBU. I loathe that style of singing. I thought I was the only one!

MissTwister Mon 16-Nov-15 16:39:30

YANBU. It's completely bamboozles me how people generally seem to think that taking a good song and slowing it down/ singing it in a breathy voice is something wonderful - time and time again. It makes me seethe

TaliZorahVasNormandy Mon 16-Nov-15 16:43:26

Yanbu, its not just the breathy voice either, its when some of them dont do bloody pronunciation.

BrendaandEddie Mon 16-Nov-15 16:43:28

I am so sad * breathes breathily* and so i will sing * la la la * a happy upbeat song * lala lala * in a sad way to make it seem meaningful

Although not Christmas ad, the Premier Inn ad with Katie Melua murdering Wonderful Life pisses me off big time, and then Lenny fucking Henry walks out ofthe door.

TaliZorahVasNormandy Mon 16-Nov-15 16:46:33

That song was also the theme to the Royle family.

BoGrainger Mon 16-Nov-15 16:52:39

Yes, wonderful life upsets me more because the original brings back lots of memories. I actually don't understand the JL ad. The song says half a world away yet he is clearly on another planet. And why is he there at all?
