Star Wars vs c-section

Have nc for this, as dh will want to see results!

Mumsnet jury is needed....

Just got the letter through for my c-section - 17th December. DH wants to see the midnight showing of the new Star Wars movie at midnight, 16th/17th December. I have to go in at 7.30am on the 17th.

AIBU to not really want him to go? I think I'm going to be nervous and want him at home, and we're going to be pretty busy after baby gets here/in hospital all day etc; I think he needs his rest. (we already have young ds1) He is a massive Star Wars fan and is excited about the movie. He's very good at home, massive support and brilliant dad/dh. I (and ds) will, hopefully, be in bed, asleep.

AIBU?

Can't you move your C-section? (Star Wars fan)

I'm so sorry but for me it would be SW.... I'm a traitor Blush

I'm a massive Star Wars fan, I can't wait for the new film. He can wait to see the film. It's not going anywhere.

I totally understand. My DH is also a huge fan. In your shoes I think I would try and get to sleep before he went then let him go BUT on the understanding that his phone is kept on vibrate just in case and he HAS to be ready to support me in the morning no ifs or buts! I'd rather he went then than when we had a teeny tiny baby to deal with.

And further Chewbacca is a compulsory middle name if born on the same day so resched Grin

My DH would be the same (although I think he would be stressy about the impending birth and that may have put him off!)

I'd probably encourage my DH to go. I'd need the support more during and after the birth than the night before going in. But it depends how well your DH does on little sleep, too. If he can still function well on a few hours sleep, then fair enough too.

My DH would also be very concerned about getting spoilered by seeing a later showing!

I'm seeing it on the 18th!- woop

Sorry op, that's irrelevant I know.

I'd let him go on the grounds that you'll need him more once the baby has arrived and won't want him sidling off to the cinema then.

If he doesn't go on the 17th then he will either miss out on the film or be leaving you after the birth to watch it at some point.

I don't think I would stop him going to the midnight showing, it's probably going to be the most convenient time to see it after its release (another star wars fan)

It might be irrelevant anyway if he doesn't already have a ticket - our cinema has been sold out for weeks!

UmbongoUnchained · 14/11/2015 12:44

I'd let him go. It will be the last time he gets to go to the cinema for a while!!! And also your last night by yourself for a long time!

Ooh tough one!! I love Star Wars and I'm very excited about it and as I'm 29 weeks, will probably the last film I see at the cinema before dd arrives.

I totally get why he wants to go and also understand why you're nervous. But as you've rightfully said you'll be in bed. So you'll still have the evening.

I'd say he'd can go - as it's just a film and not boozing but tough shit, you have to be in at 7.30am tired or not so that's the pay off.

Tell him he can go but he's doing everything around the house while on paternity leave. Including night wakings.

Yanbu tbh. your about to have major surgery and presumably supprt from your husband would he much appreciated and not from one who's been awake half the might watching a dumb film. is he supposed to drive yku safely and he there on 4 hours sleep?

AuntieStella · 14/11/2015 12:48

In your shoes, I'd be happy for him to go.

He'll be back to take you in, with plenty of time to spare.

And in the longer run, pulling one all-nighter is not going to wreck his ability to parent effectively.

Star Wars!

Go with him you probably won't sleep anyway.

Report
megletthesecond · 14/11/2015 12:54

I'd be worried about how he would function the next day. He can't drive safely after that for a start. He's going to feel wretched by the evening of the 17th when you will need support in hospital.

Well, that's pretty definitive. I better link him to this thread and let him know the good news!

Thanks all.

Showed his to my dh, he is a big Star Wars fan. He said you are not being unreasonable, your dh should stay home and see the film and few days later....??

CatThiefKeith · 14/11/2015 13:11

I'd let him go too.

Leia or Luke? Congratulations OP! :)

Think of it as practice for the forthcoming sleepless nights :)

Provided he is confident he can be alert in the morning to take you in, I don't see a problem. I do understand why you would want him at home though.

Good luck!
