AIBU?

to ask, what should I do this weekend alone in London? I AM SO BORED

Any suggestions?

I am sick and tired of hardly doing anything nice because I'm alone all the time. Close friends have gone all quiet at the moment, I assume because they are busy. Other friends have invited me out clubbing but I don't want to go drinking and hanging round a sweaty club all night. So yes it's my choice that I'm stuck home alone, but I don't want to go clubbing.

In an ideal world I'd have some company for good conversation and a laugh over drinks. That's not happening, so what should I do instead?

Open to all ideas! Except I don't really have any posh clothes so maybe things like afternoon tea at the Savoy are not going to work. Other than that, what exciting or fun or pleasant things can I do in London on my own?

What about a trip to the Wellcome Collection - I find that's usually pretty inspiring and quirky?

Grab your camera and go for a walk.

Go to an evening show. Plenty of people go on their own. I went to see Billy Elliot when in London for a training course an went to see Les Mis alone because DD and DM wanted to chill in the hotel after a few days of sight seeing.

Whereabouts are you?
I used to live fairly centrally and took great pleasure in wandering around Borough market, picking up a few things for lunch the heading down the South Bank to the Tate Modern.

Columbia Road flower market on Sunday morning.
Queue up for half price tickets for something at Leicester Square
Lunch in Brixton Village just because it's so difficult to get a seat in the best places for more than one person that you might as well take advantage.
Get a free makeup lesson at Bobbi Brown.

Museums? Shopping (Sloane square/Westfield/Covent Garden)? Go and see a matinee?

Fireworks! There are free shows all over London tomorrow, check today's evening standard.

Walk in Greenwich.

Have an unpronounceable dinner in Chinatown.

Grab a newspaper and sit in a cafe in Hampstead / tramp on the heath.

Go to local foodie markets for a coffee.

Or get on a train and go to Brighton?

Oh yes I second the Welcome Collection. I never get to go because it's not "child-friendly" enough.

What are you interested in? Plenty of great obscure museums / galleries.

National Portrait Gallery - so much better on your own. I had a lovely chat with a woman slagging off Samuel Pepys in there.

Go on a free tour at the National Gallery or V&A. Fab way of learning how to look at paintings or objects and understanding art.

Lots of good films on at the cinema right now.

Look for any guided walks around London. Again a way of learning about the city with other people. Some are free.

Thanks! Great ideas.

I'm interested in and inquisitive about everything, but I've found that I tend to just let the days drift away on the internet or watching Netflix and before I know it the whole weekend has gone. I feel stir crazy but it's my own fault!

In some ways I talk myself into not doing anything because I feel very alone, but enough is enough I have to learn how to enjoy myself alone.

It probably is the type of thing that feels weird at first but then you get used to it. I'm fine doing everyday stuff alone by the way, it doesn't make me anxious.

Going to google what's on at the Wellcome Collection.

If you're after something to do in the evening, Tate Modern is open late on Saturdays.

WTAF? Brixton is a village now???

No, "Brixton Village" is a market arcade in Brixton full of (admittedly rather nice) hipster eateries.

I used to love mooching around the National Portrait Gallery, especially the old Tudor paintings on the top floor. Also the British Museum is good. Both free :)

Try a crossfit class. The people are welcoming and the atmosphere is great. They scale for all ages/fitness levels.
