AIBU?

To think I have been conned!

I brought some (very cheap) Ralph Lauren clothing from a website that said it was an outlet. I paid then on my statement it shows as Beijing and I have had no shipping info (only ordered 40 hours ago). I had a confirmation email from some place called "win". Have I been stupidly conned?!

Probably. If you paid by credit card, you'll have some protection

Yes.

I think the clue is in the fact that the clothing was very cheap. You may very well get something but it will almost certainly be fake.

You've almost certainly been conned. It happened to me when my sister sent me a link for a couple of Hollister things my nephew wanted.

Shipped from China, cheap items but really bad fakes Sad

I just chalked it up to experience but reading the first reply above, maybe i should have talked to my credit card company.

Was it via a specific website, or a shop on eBay?

I ask because there's lots of this on eBay now - the details say UK Seller & then your parcel arrives from China & isn't what you're expecting at all.

Unfortunately I'd expect to receive fakes - and probably not even good quality ones. I'm afraid the old advice "if something seems too good to be true it probably is" really does apply to buying stuff online.

I had a similar experience with some jewellery - the credit card company sorted it all out for me in a matter of weeks. Definitely worth calling them.

I would call the credit card company.

You have been conned I am sorry to say.

Yes, this happened to me (not designer goods but an online boutique pretending to be someone else) package came from Chuna, no return address.

My credit card company are dealing with it for me.

Post the website link and we might be able to be more specific.

Constance, leave off will you?

Plenty of people have fallen into this trap. You are victim blaming. I have no idea why you would do that.

Report
DoctorFunkenstein · 06/11/2015 11:57

To be clear: she didn't know it was counterfeit.

The website presumably didn't state that it was counterfeit.

Had it done so, you would have a point.

ConstanceMarkYaBitch · 06/11/2015 12:33

Victim blaming? That is really insulting to the proper use of that term. Hmm

You can't con an honest person. If you are ordering "designer gear" for a fraction of the real price its either counterfeit or stolen. Everyone knows that, of course she knew it was counterfeit.

Report
ConstanceMarkYaBitch · 06/11/2015 12:34

And to be clear, you have no way of knowing from the OP if she knew or thought it was counterfeit or not.

Report
SootyShearwater · 06/11/2015 13:01

And nor do you Constance. You know no more than anyone else in this - the only person who knows is the OP and perhaps benefit of the doubt applies here?

DoctorFunkenstein · 06/11/2015 13:05

Bullshit. Absolute tosh. Are you one of those goady f*ckers?

Report
ConstanceMarkYaBitch · 06/11/2015 13:19

Nope, I'm one of those realistic fuckers, thanks.

If you're buying Ralph Lauren for peanuts its fake. If you don't know that, you shouldn't be allowed online alone.

DoctorFunkenstein · 06/11/2015 13:21

Clearly pointless arguing with you.

'And its bought, by the way.'

And it's 'it's' by the way.

So it is. Well done you.

'You can't con an honest person'

?!

Trying to find a bargain is considered dishonest, yes? I ordered a baby carrier once from a Chinese website, which I didn't realise was Chinese in my post baby sleepless haze.

I realised about ten minutes later but it was too late by then. Cue a prolonged bank assisted endeavour to retrieve my outlay.

I was just trying to save money. And naive, and unfortunate. Now of course I am wiser.

You cannot reasonably call stupidity or naivety 'dishonesty'. And plenty of people might not know the true cost of designer brands.

Well depends how cheap it was Constance - there's an outlet near us that does cheap ralph lauren stuff, along with loads of other stuff - all real. Plenty of folk buy it, then sell it on ebay at a small profit.

If she knew it was fake, why is she asking whether she's been conned?

OP said she thought it was an outlet. TK Maxx is an outlet - if I bought very reduced items there, I would assume they were real, just discounted. I am very wary of online sites like she presumably used, but that doesn't mean she was knowingly buying fakes!

You'll be warier next time OP, and yes speak to your credit card company.
