To only wash my hair once a week

I have just been told I am disgusting by a "friend"
I only wash my very short hair once a week (sometimes longer) because frankly I hate having wet hair, I hate the feeling of water down my neck and I hate my head feeling cold.
I also hate getting out of the bath or shower for this reason but obviously force myself to do this once a day.
I use dry shampoo inbetween and noone has ever commented on my hair being a mess and I actually find it easier to style when it is a bit dirty.

I do mine twice a week,
Shower daily though.

See no problem with it.

Well it's your choice but my scalp and hairline feels grimy if I don't wash it every day.
Don't you wrap your hair up in a towel? I too hate drips down my neck.

Your friend is rude but if it looks oily or dirty you need to probably give it a wash.

One person said this and it's got to you, enough to start a thread about it?

Ignore her, she sounds batshit crazy.

Toughen up, or you're in for a rough ride through life.

I couldn't go that long without washing my hair, it itches badly so I do it every other day. I just wrap a towel my head straight out of the shower so I don't get drippage.

I only wash my long, curly hair once a week and I don't use dry shampoo either. My hair loves me for it.

She admits my hair always looks fine.
Thankyou worra there are a lot of things posted on here that I think are stupid and silly but just because I think they are I don't try to belittle the poster. I am plenty tough enough thankyou but I am also human and sometimes the little things get to me ok

Nice friend you have thereHmm

Everyone's hair is different, a friend of mine only washes her's once a week and it always looks healthy and glossy. I try and wash mine every other day sometimes leave it 3 days and use dry shampoo, by three days it looks awful and my scalp gets itchy. Always have a bath or shower every day though.

I'm not trying to belittle you.

I mean what I say. She's supposed to be your friend and yet she's 'got to you' with her stupid comment.

Just try to let it ride over you and file it in the 'FFS' bin.

I'm sure my hair is greaser the more often I wash it, I used to wash it maybe 3 times a week and it only needed washing that often, then I had a smart job where I wanted to blow dry every morning and suddenly if I didn't wash it every day it was greasy.
Maybe if your friend started washing her hair once a week hers would be rank, but yours isn't used to it, doesn't need it.

I only wash my shoulder length coarse curly hair (and then blow dry) once a week, sometimes longer. My hairdresser supports this, especially for some hair types. You can train your hair - I used to go 2 weeks between washes, but for diary reasons reduced it, and now it feels dirty earlier. And yes, the more often I wash it, the greasier it gets. (The maximum was 4 weeks, that was a bit rank but I was very ill.)

Suggest she increases her time between washes 1 day at a time to see what happens.

I get compliments on my hair very frequently.

Another weekly washer here. As a kid I could sit on it so weekly was really the only option, I'm guessing that trained it in some way. Even now with hair just under my bra I only usually have to wash it weekly. Very occasionally I have to do it more than once but it's rare.

I don' t see the prob if your hair looks ok. I'd love to get away with that. These days I need to wash at least every two days or its just a greasy mess.

I wash my hair once a week. It's in very good condition and when I can be bothered to go to the hairdresser, they always say how well looked after it is. It doesn't look any different on day 6 than it did on day 2. 8yo DD has hers done on a Sunday too. It's waist length and beautiful. 4yo DS needs a few more washes as he's often filthy.

I'm like you btw. I hate being wet and I hate that transition from bath/shower to getting dressed. Feeling chilly and damp and having to put on clothes and feeling all discombobulated. Eugh. Actual baths and showers are fine. It's the undressing and being wet and uncomfortable. Horrid.

I wash min twice a week.

Is dyed a bright colour and fades when washed.

Is in much better condition than when I washed it daily.

OP, you say you have very short hair, so isn't that the easiest type of hair to be able to wash and dry very quickly? I mean it takes no time to wash and rinse compared to longer hair and is easily towel-dried and finished off with a hair dryer. It seems very illogical to me that your reason for only washing it once a week is that it's very short. Confused

People with dry/frizzy or curly hair can often get away without washing all that often.

At age 53 mine still needs doing every two days. Otherwise it is just greasy. I have to wash mine more often than my teenage dd washes hers ffs!

If it looks okay then don't worry about it! I used to do mine every day and then switched to every 3 when I did it pink so it faded slower. Made me realise it can last that long these days, after that it starts looking really greasy.. I think the change was I lost weight and sweated less.

Also.. My mum told me last time I visited that she hadn't washed hers for 3 weeks! (She's disabled so finds it hard) I couldn't tell at all, it didn't smell and looked fluffy like it had just be washed Confused We're all different!

Personally, I think washing hair just once a week is disgusting. However, I would never, ever be presumptuous enough to actually say it to someone; your 'friend' was very rude. If you are happy to have dirty hair, then that is your choice.

I have to say, the reasons you give for not washing your hair are a little odd. I can understand them, as I don't like water on my face (which is why I can't swim). However, it doesn't stop me from showering, bathing or washing my hair every day. Perhaps you have an underlying fear of water which needs to be addressed? Really not trying to be rude, but suggesting it as a possibility.

Your way is much better for your hair than washing it every day.

(PS - meant to say, I have a fear of water, which is on my own list of things to be addressed at some point).

Generally mine is done on a Monday, Thursday and Saturday but I'll wash it more if it needs done. I used to wash it every day but then I discovered dry shampoo and a messy bun and life changed forever Grin

Honestly, I find it a bit minging to go a week without washing your hair. Don't you ever wake up in the morning a bit hot and sweaty? And if it's short, as mine is, it would probably take about 1 minute to wash it and less than 5 to dry it.
