Okay a few things I'm annoyed about here

  1. my mum who rarely helps has come around unannounced and stinking of smoke, picks my son up and he now stinks of it
  2. calls him bad for throwing things
  3. demands I sort her straighteners
  4. demands I curl her hair
  5. demands that small jobs like the above 2 I should do without questioning

I am just so annoyed and fed up with her. Or am I just being petty

Tell her it's your home and you don't want her in it with her demands and smelling of smoke.
Just get rid of her.

Your not being unreasonable, why is she acting this way when you have a small child to care for? I know its hard, but maybe a quick word with her or just pretend something has come up and you have to go out quickly? is she feeling left out because you are not seeing as much as of her as she thinks you should? Adults can become selfish and unreasonable as much as children sometimes, it sounds very attention seeking behaviour to me and as someone with a MIL who has behaved like this in the past, I can sympathise too.

Stand up for yourself. She'll respect you more if you do OP... If not, she can -piss off and find someone else to annoy.
