My MIL has kindly given us their old sofas as she has had new ones. As she is in her late 70s our tastes are slightly different. How am I going to reinvent it?? I have looked into re-covering but that seems the same price as buying a new one! I am sure there are many of you with a creative flair that can help? Please!! It is actually amazingly comfortable just very unattractive! Roses are best in the garden not on furniture!!

A couple of large throws? although a bit annoying to have to straighten them all the time

A pic would certainly help us help you. I am a big believer in throws and cushions though...... We have an old sofa from my ILs that is very flower-y. I used throws for years until it inexplicably grew on me...... it's pale green and pink cabbage roses..... quite fashionable now.

Sofa cover?

We had a pair of hideous sofas and I covered them in huge plain throws tucked into the gaps so they didn't move too much and then covered in cushions. Throws are probably the cheapest solution.

also you can easily remove throws before you MIL visits.

At the risk of sounding like a total idiot I am not sure how I would get a picture on here!!?

Has anyone spotted any suitable throws? The ones I have seen are quite expensive. Any suggestions of shops? We live in a very rural location so shops are few. I will have to chance on line shopping but won't really know what they feel like then.

I am a big fan of amazon online- have had some lovely duvet covers there.

Dunelm mill does lovely throws also.

Ikea throws are cheap and wash wonderfully.

You can buy ready made cheap covers, there are only so many designs.

I was given a garish red couch OP, really comfy 3 seater but garish red. Couldn't afford to buy another so bought 3 of these throws.. It is transformed! Looks luxurious and feels cosy. Smile

I made new cushion covers and antimacassars for ours but fabric is expensive.

Throws and loads of cushions is the way to go.

I'd just proudly display the hideous sofa, throws are too much faff, unless nobody ever sits on it. I would just end up with a hideous sofa with a throw rolled into a ball on it otherwise.

we bought throws from these people - there is an 'everything white' and coloured designs. Really pleased with them :)

We live on our sofa Grin If you huy them big enough they won't need re-adjusting all the time.

We bought a hideous sofa second hand, super super comfy but colour and design was awful! Couldn't afford anything expensive. Got given a HUGE white throw which just about covers it all and some lovely cushions to our taste. It looks amazing new!

Huge throws. We have MIL's 1980s floral sofa, but you wouldn't know it...

Throws, cushions, buy cover, or if you were handy with a sewing machine you could knock up a cover?

At least you wont need to panic about it, we eventually gave in and bought a new sofa but im forever shooing the kids away from it with food / drinks lol

As well as throws, you could also add lots of colour coordinated cushions.

You can buy ready made covers for about £50 I think if they're a pretty standard size and shape.
