To think that hairdressers should be legally obliged to warn you before commiting topairy ...

I'd take my specs off and had my eyes shut against the snippets and she was holding forth relentlessly about her cousins dog and by the time I realised what was going on it was too late and my once magnificent fringe was layered to buggery and now my head looks all pointy and it'll take months to grow back ... Wail!

Just wanted to vent, really ... Anyone else got any hairdresser-related horror stories to take my mind off it?

Why do hairdressers never listen to what you want?! I went in February and said to the lady that I liked the length that it was so I only wanted the ends trimmed off and no layers. I take my glasses off and what do I end up with but about 3 inches taken off and layers! Aaaaargh! I haven't had my hair cut since!

Well, l don't have any stories as l now get £5 cuts from the mobile hairdresser.
Are you sure it is as horrible as you think?
And.. isn't the advice that you should tell them, give them a chance to fix it?
In the case of your fringe though, l guess that needs to be left looking like Cadfael

I haven't had any bad topiary recently but your OP has made me yowl with laughter and spooked the cat

I don't know how she could have fixed cutting too much off and putting in layers when I didn't want them!

Oops unless you want to end up looking like Cadfeal. Blush

I don't know how you are 'supposed to give them a chance to fix it' unless they can magically grow the hair back then they can't fix it.

No, l agree about the fringe in this case.
However, it is normally suggested... And they could make good another way? Voucher or something?

I switch between sharp bob and short crop. I have light brown, caramel, chocolate type colours blended normally, not stripey spice girls or Rachel from friends but subtle. Anyway. Diff stylist to usual - gave me a solid brown Pat Butcher. Not a good look. I was channelling Emmet Legoman

Hmm

I got scalped by a hairdresser because of her fecking wittering and not concentrating. I had a pixie crop at the time so not much to start with!. When she finished even she said 'oh it's quite short...cute though..' Shock

Could have slapped her. Right before xmas too. I never went back

Unless they do fringe extensions I think it's a lost cause ... And I did have a bit of a moan and she sold me a tub of hair wax to pouffe it up a bit but it smells weird and feels all gluey and just makes the sad remains look even sparser ... The lady I usually have is great but she wasn't in today and I was in a hurry and now I feel like shit AND have a sodding great industrial size vat of stinky hair glue that cost me £8.50 and I'm never going to use ... Sad

You complained and she sold you product? Man she's good.

Went to a major chain of hairdressers for a 'trim' ended up with my waist length hair bra strap length and choppy layers.

Apparently i had split ends so they needed to sort them out. Once the first cut had been done there was no going back.

Then they wanted to charge me £45

Having been in the same boat on several occasions I feel your pain FecklessSad.

Last time it happened I nearly crashed the car on the way home as I kept catching sight of my terrible hair in the rear view mirror and gasping in horror.

Hairdressers should be better regulated. There should also be open and available feedback from previous customers to view.

Going to a hairdresser is largely nothing more than pot luck.

I am still trying to put right the pain of my visit in February - and they charged me £120 for something that honestly looked like a child who found a pair of scissors had done . First time in 20yrs I complained . The Toni and guy manager told me where to go

Last year- another salon- came home and realised I had a purple coloured hairline due to the to or that hadn't all being washed away. Which was ironic really considering how yellow it was

'The Toni and guy manager told me where to go'. Shock

And realistically what can anyone do after a disaster at a hairdressers? No real effective recourse for a crap haircut is there and so they get away with it.

It took me over a year to grow mine out. I was furious. People say oh it's only hair, it'll grow etc but it's horrible to feel that not only does it look awful, but you've paid an arm and a leg for the privilege Hmm.

I'm afraid your mistake was closing your eyes. You need to stay on Red Alert!
Last time I went in Toni and Guy I asked for a blunt fringe, which wasn't in fashion at the time. I had to stop her twice from coming in with the scissors held vertically. No I don't want a feathery layered face pelmet I want a fecking FRINGE!

I have mine either short crop or inverted bob (longer at front, short at back).

As I have thick wavy hair, the back looks terrible if it's not short enough, but no matter how many times I ask them to use clippers they insist on just using scissors on the back as "using clippers doesn't look feminine"

Neither does a thick mullet FFS!

Last time I said to the new stylist that the previous one had insisted that she wasn't using clippers as it looked unfeminine and I'd like her to use them. She seemed a bit reluctant and then I realised she had also refused in the past! She did use them, but over a comb leaving it way too long so it curls up and looks a mess.

I guess it means I have to go back more often if it's not cut too short. The bastards.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 29/10/2015 17:47

Telephone, I tried clippering it myself once, then had to go to the hairdressers tail between legs asking them to fix it. Blush

I wouldn't mind, but I've done a hairdressing course so I can cut DP's hair, and all the DCs, but no bugger will cut mine!

I've spent months growing out my very, very short bob. Not because I want to, mind, but because it suddenly struck me a while back that because 3yo DD has the same face shape and hair texture as me, we'd morphed into having the same haircut. So, goodbye lovely short, straight fringed bob for me then.

So, I treated myself to the hairdressers today as my hair was pissing me off. I wanted some shape! Some texture! A bit of style to it! Hairdresser nodded along very understandingly. I even explained about wanting a different haircut to DD. So she cut, and trimmed, and styled... has given me a straight fringed but ever so slightly marginally longer bob

Hmm

I've had to dye it to try and make it different from DD's. But of course, the homedye red has done as well as any homedye red ever does, and I'm just a wee bit more auburn that before.

I'm just going to start dressing the same as DD and suck it up. Maybe we can make a thing out of it...

My theory is that each hairdresser has only one cut. All of their clients will look the same. What you need to do is find the one whose one cut is the one you want and Bingo - no more haircut pain.

StillMedusa · 29/10/2015 18:12

I feel your pain... I'm waiting for my August moment of madness 'let's cut it all off' disaster to grow. I was hoping for short but feminine, and ended up looking like Matt Smith ex Dr Who. It does NOT look good and it will be years before I have anything remotely decent again :(
