I am going for an informal 'chilli night' at a friend's house tonight with a few others. Normally I would take wine or beer but I don't have any in, plus I'm not planning to drink myself and I know others will bring alcohol. Wibu to take a big tub of Haagen Dazs as my contribution instead? I could go to the shop on the way, but don't really want to. Do you think ice cream is ok? Thanks

I should add that I'm not in the UK, so 'tonight' is in about half an hour's time grin

i think ice cream in October is a weird thing to bring. You're not drinking alcohol but I'm guessing you will need to bring something to drink? Get a few bottles of fizzy elderflower juice or something...

Pancakeflipper Sat 24-Oct-15 11:19:48

Take it.

If someone brought a big tub of haagen dazs round my house at any time, they would be my best friend forever.

I think it's fine. Just make sure there'ok be enough for everyone.

Ice-cream will be fine smile I am sure they have invited you for your company and not your contribution anyway.

Will they have enough room in the freezer for it do you think or will it stay frozen until you've finished the main event?

*there'll

Gotta love ice cream. If your friends will enjoy it and you're not drinking alcohol then take it!

DoreenLethal Sat 24-Oct-15 11:21:03

There is never a situation where ice cream isn't welcome, so take it.

Pancakeflipper Sat 24-Oct-15 11:21:41

It is a new tub isn't it? Not half eaten.

You aren't my 'friend' who came to an evening at ours with cheese, one piece had teeth marks in it?

ShamefulUsername Sat 24-Oct-15 11:22:15

Take the ice cream. Or stay in and eat the ice cream. Or send the ice cream to me smile

PollyCazaletWannabe Sat 24-Oct-15 11:22:37

Yes grin a new tub!

PollyCazaletWannabe Sat 24-Oct-15 11:24:01

Hmm. I could buy soft drinks to take but that would also mean going to the shop

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer Sat 24-Oct-15 11:24:07

Ice cream is great.

SweetTeaVodka Sat 24-Oct-15 11:30:54

I'd love it if someone bought ice cream round to mine for a night in!

Junosmum Sat 24-Oct-15 11:38:12

Oh yes, i'd be very happy with that

waxweasel Sat 24-Oct-15 11:39:52

Don't take soft drinks - that is just making a real point of 'I'm not planning on drinking'. Unless you were pregnant and brought your own non alcoholic beers or something, I'd find that weird.

Bringing ice cream would be amazing smile

grumpysquash Sat 24-Oct-15 11:41:44

Yes take it, as long as it's not already open.

RealHuman Sat 24-Oct-15 11:42:07

It's chilli. Ice cream is perfect.

Gileswithachainsaw Sat 24-Oct-15 11:43:33

take it.

TestingTestingWonTooFree Sat 24-Oct-15 11:44:13

Just check they have room in the freezer.

Fuckitfay Sat 24-Oct-15 11:58:41

Ice cream is perfect!

yorkshapudding Sat 24-Oct-15 12:02:20

I would bloody love it if someone brought ice cream round to my house. Although I agree with grumpy, not if it's been opened!

yeOldeTrout Sat 24-Oct-15 12:22:31

Sounds lovely to me smile

PollyCazaletWannabe Sat 24-Oct-15 13:41:21

I took the ice cream in the end smile thanks everyone
