Fecking Bacterial Vaginosis...no responses in health...Please help!

Hello,

I've had this on and off for about 18months (see previous thread) but now I'm sick of it! 2 rounds of metronizale haven't worked. The Balance Activ pessaries work but then it comes back.

I did a douche last night of hydrogen peroxide and then inserted the following tablets: folic acid, vitamin c and acidophilus. I am also taking these orally.

My main question is whether it is right to try to kill the bad bacteria (with the hydrogen perioxide & acid) at the same time as trying to replenish the good (with acidophilus) or should I do acid for a week THEN acidophilus?

I am drinking apple cider vinegar and have cleaned my diet right up.

Any advice would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance

FYI: I have been tested for STIs & thrush and am clear.

Have you seen a doctor?

Douching with hydrogen peroxide? WTAF?! Shock

Oh and go see a doctor. If you have already, get a second opinion.

Oh yes, I've seen two different doctors. They both gave me antibiotics but basically said it's really hard to treat and just gave me the generic advice re not using soap, clean underwear etc.

Yeah, google has lots of suggestions for BV and hydrogen perioxide is the most popular. followed by acidophilus. The stinging was nasty but there was no smell today!!

Does the balance activ work if you use it regularly, say at the end of every period?

Oh, my fanny is twitching like a rabbit's nose at the thought of putting hydrogen peroxide in it! Confused

Seriously - see a doctor again. Shoving random things up your chuff because you have read about it on the internet is not a good idea.

First off, please stop putting stuff into your vagina, you are putting yourself at risk of harm. I work in sexual health and I've seen some pretty nasty burns and skin peeling
resulting from similar. Its unlikely
that the good lactobacilli bacteria
have survived the hydrogen peroxide
and the oral biotics aren't formulated
to break down in the vag so you may
actually have left yourself open to
thrush and more BV. I'd strongly
recommend getting a doctor to check
you out when they reopen and to
seek help sooner if you ddevelop
symptoms. NHS Direct would be
your friend here.
BV is a bugger but it can be treated very successfully.
You might be looking at something
like longer term metronidazole or
taking it before a trigger or in
combination with something else.
Book yourself an appointment at a
GUM clinic. Most have a service for
complex or chronic problems who
are brilliant at this kind of thing. You
could phone and ask to speak to one
of the staff to find out the best place
to go.

biofem actigel (actijel?) is very good and won't do any harm.
there is one preparation for thrush and another one for BV.

It is made from natural plant ingredients and corrects the pH balance.

Presumably the doctor had a good rummage to make sure there wasn't a forgotten tampon stuck out of reach?

I'm nervous about saying mine has gone but touch wood...
Metronidazole didn't deal with mine, I had a couple of courses of Clindomycin ( antibiotic cream , put in vagina.) And also,as I'm menopausal, one course of oestrogen cream (ditto!)
Had to be very fussy , washing every night, but no soaking in the bath ,at all, ever.
It was horrible and affected my quality of life more than having a mastectomy did,so you have all my sympathy.

It is brilliant stuff for perimenopausal symptoms. Blush

I had this and was treated successfully in the spring with metronizadole. It has just re-occurred, so saw the GP yesterday and got the metro again. Unfortunately, I didn't have my wits about me (that's another story and another condition) and agreed to take the 5 tablets at once course and now feel extremely nauseous and rather peculiar! Go back to your GP - Dr Google is not your friend here.

Iirc, (it was a long time ago), you can get metronidazole gel. Ask for that and see if it helps.

what are you doing to your body?

Firstly have you been tested for BV?

secondly, no soap, only cotton underwear... you need to allow the bateria to build up, your vagina needs bacteria!, it self cleans!

Report
3littlefrogs · 09/10/2015 20:55

Showers are much better than baths because it gives the vaginal flora a chance to build up.

Hydrogen peroxide anywhere near that area is a really bad idea.

Hello again all, sorry for making you all cross your legs at the thought of hydrogen peroxide. Just goes to show how desperate one gets when one's fanjo stinks of dead horse/rotting fish. I only kept it in for 10mins. 3% solution.

Yep, GP had a good rummage and there's defo no lost tampon there. They said my pH was borderline for BV.

I have very light, irregular periods (PCOS) so that doesn't make much of a difference. To keep the smell away using Balance Activ, I'd have to use a pessary every night forever and they are £1 each!

Thanks for all the advice and product recommendations. I want to shove them ALL up my chuff!!!
