AIBU?

To think Mumsnet is being a bit heavy handed with its Lidl promoting?

Lidl vlogger, Lidl job ads, Mumsnet seems to be on a campaign to get middle england shopping there.
Personally, I go there for some things, mostly olive oil and dried fruits. However I have a couple of problems with it. The milk is not british and we all know how much our dairy farmers are struggling to sell and get a decent price for their product. Also, the meat and meat products are mostly german. A lot of German meat comes from very intensively farmed giant cow units.

You can never have too much Lidl.

Love Lidl. Love it.

They're going to start paying a living wage to employees aren't they?, good reason to support them don't you think?

If they sold all I needed under one roof I'd shop there all the time.

Absolutely agree. It is really beginning to piss me off. It is always on my screen and seems to lack the usual MN credentials. I also worry about the dairy farmers and the intensively farmed meat. (Was just reading a post from dairy farmer - about a wedding not farming - but it is a reminder that farmers are mothers too - trying to get the best for their work). (Realise that is badly worded and sounds trite - blame rushing out and posting before I go!)

I get that it is advertising but it is so heavy handed.

I get no Lidl ads. I believe you see Lidl ads because you've visited their website. This is how targeted advertising works.

You can definitely have too much Lidl. We go there on average about once a month, I suppose, actually less now as it's in the next town since we moved.

Last time I bought two packs of biscuits. Both were undercooked so when I opened them, the first few biscuits were a sort of dough.

It was horrid. You don't get that with proper biscuits from proper shops Sad I wonder sometimes if there is some form of quality control in operation or if it's just pot luck?

I mean they are cheaper than normal biscuits but then if you have to bin them you're wasting money aren't you.

Plus the worst thing was I knew if I took them back no one would care, or do anything. So I didn't bother.

I hate Lidl because the staff are often really rude, it's a big rush at the checkout, they penalise staff if they don't scan something like 30 items a minute, and I can't trust the quality. I thought dry goods were fairly safe to get from there but obviously not.

I don't understand the fascination with lidl...the quality is shit and although on paper it's cheaper, we end up throwing way more food away then we do when bought elsewhere...and I get lidl ads on here and I definitely don't visit their website

Plus their list of product recalls on the product recall site is huge! That's Aldi as well btw.

Maybe I just don't visit any supermarkets websites so Google foesn't know I shop at all!

Lidl ads are definitely based on your profile as defined by Google. Mumsnet may have some other list where they get paid for allowing certain brands to advertise. Then some alghoritm works out which are relevant to you.

I don't get any supermarkets ads on Mumsnet.

It looks like their many of their product recalls are due to labelling issues. They don't have the 'contains egg, contains wheat' warnings in English on the label.

I really like Lidl. I love their cleaning stuff, their fresh veg, the bags of nuts the jam, the mozzarella ... They do free range chicken and eggs and British meat.

Everyone says food costs less at Lidl/Aldi. Maybe it does. Maybe it's just me, but I can't do a FULL shop there (there's always something they're missing) so I have to go to a "proper" supermarket too (which is annoying), and I end up spending a fortune on tat-I-don't-need from the bit in the middle.

No I'm talking about the electrical items, toys etc. Will try and link.

I never watch Vlogger.
This site is free.
Owners need to find ways to earn monry.
Lidl pays them.
I don't have to watch videos sponsored by Lidl.
I think people need to learn this one trick: Do all your shopping and watching sponsored videos in one browser. Choose let say Chrome for that.
Then open Firefox, clear all cookies, history of browsing and shortcuts and browse your social sites there. You will see dramatic difference in ads presented to you as long as you won't click on them. Remember not to log to Firefox with you google account as this will carry your profile with you.
