AIBU?

Merkel is responsible, Germany should take them

Merkel has idiotically encouraged millions of illegals to risk their lives getting to Europe, and then promptly shut the door on them. Now sensible countries like Hungary are having to bear the brunt. It's the most idiotic policy I've seen for quite some while.

Germany should pay. Germany should house them. And the EU rules on free movement of people should be torn up. I hope the AfD gets a massive boost at the expense of the CDU/CSU.

I think even someone as wet as Cameron could get Hungary, Croatia, et al to agree on making Germany bear the brunt after the problems caused by hordes of illegals at their borders over the last few days. I am sure the Greeks would be more than happy to oblige too.

I think you may have us confused with the Daily Mail. Or possibly the EDL. Biscuit

Agreed.

Merkel and sturgeon and the dozy feckers who said they'll offer up a room.

I feel so sorry for eastern Europe right now as they're being bombarded when their own economies are so dire their own populations have already migrated West!

"them"?

If you are reduced to inhumane terminology, your opinion really isn't relevant or interesting.

I agree. Let them in, llet them in, let them in. Oh hang on. Theres quite a lot of them.

Eh? Confused

I think it's Assad and Isis who are responsible Confused

But keep giving us your intelligent insight into the crisis

Agreed. She was encouraging them, promising all sorts, then slammed the door.

How many more have set off from home on the understanding Germany would take them?

Oh, and YABU for even mentioning the AfD Hmm

Emotional language aside there is an issue with the fact geography dictates the migrants and asylum seekers (because there are both coming into Europe) must enter through economically troubled countries to enter Europe on a promise from Merkel that has now been withdrawn.

How can these individuals be housed safely and in sanitary conditions in countries that struggle to maintain the basics for their own populous?

Should those of us further West offer up money and funding to these nations to help? What is the solution because it's not helping anyone at the moment simply saying 'come to europe'

Europe should look to Australia for inspiration.

I don't know what should be done really but watching the awful scenes from Hungary and Serbia on the news I do blame Germany to some extent.
Whether rightly or not these refugees/migrants believe they will be tKen care of in Germany and are risking a lot to get there.

I don't think that there is a solution a. that involves one country alone and b. that would make the flow of humanity stop or even control as long as their are terror-torn countries and an economic inequality beyond our experience.

We should thinking quite so much about what is 'pulling' all these desperate people to make a horrendously dangerous trip, leaving everything they've even known behind, and have a think about what's 'pushing' them.

LunchpackOfNotreDame · 17/09/2015 21:12

Well surely it's a push me pull you situation and can be attacked from both sides? Resolving isis won't happen overnight so whilst they work on the long slow push resolve the pull so the first nations they reach don't feel so swamped and helpless?

This sounds suspiciously like a Daily Mail comment.

Report
PacificDogwod · 17/09/2015 21:15

Quite.
There needs to be a united and unified and concerted effort by all of Europe (and one could argue the whole West) to cope with this.

I really don't see how Germany can be seen not to be doing its bit tbh. Wanna compare how many migrants Germany took compared to the UK?

Report
LunchpackOfNotreDame · 17/09/2015 21:17

No. It's a sensible suggestion.

How long, realistically, is it going to take to make Syria safe? Honestly? It's not going to happen overnight is it. So we need to make sure the people coming to europe do so safely and the border nations have the means to support and process these large swathes of people because they are clearly not coping

Surely as part of the EU we, and more to the point Merkel as it was her comments that are being blamed here, have a duty of care to the poorer nations of Europe?

Report
Ubik1 · 17/09/2015 21:17

Germany is asking the rest of Europe to take its fair share. Germany will have taken 1M in 2015.

What do you suggest Europe should do?

Are we talking legal or illegal?

Report
Rockytoptennessee · 17/09/2015 21:18

"they" are human beings, refugees, not "illegals".

And it's funny that you mention "sensible" Hungary. The country whose government seems to have forgotten about the fact that in 1956, Europe, USA and Canada WELCOMED 200,000 Hungarian refugees, running from the Russians.

Report
Ubik1 · 17/09/2015 21:19

And it's not just Isis. It's Assad too

There's no point assigning quotas if the people aren't being dealt with properly in the first instance.

Help them flee safely. Help them into safe sanitary refugee camps for processing. Give them safe passage to their assigned country. Get German/British about it with the efficiency and bureaucracy. Send bodies and equipment East to help

Report
LunchpackOfNotreDame · 17/09/2015 21:21

Its not just Hungary taking them though. Whilst those of us further West get the trickles we could send people East to help with this

Report
longfingernails · 17/09/2015 21:23

Rockytoptennessee If they do not have visas, then they are illegal immigrants. I don't know how many are refugees (many are pretending to be Syrian, including heaven knows how many terrorists and extremists), a huge number are economic migrants.

What a hideous turn of phrase you possess, OP.

Discussion with anyone who stoops to this kind of language to make their point is an utter waste of time.

Horrible.
