AIBU?

Am I being oversensitive about this?

Sorry, this is a facebook related one - part of me thinks this is tiny and I should let it go but part of me is quite upset.

They've recently changed the way stuff comes up on your wall, I think, as I'm lately seeing things that people 'like' rather than stuff they just post. My sister has liked a nasty fat shaming video and it's hurt my feelings quite a bit as I am fat myself and have quite a lot of issues surrounding food and my weight. I am currently working in overeaters anonymous so I am (hopefully) recovering; she doesn't know I'm in OA but does know about my problems with food and the pain it causes me, although we don't talk about it much.

If it's relevant she's my half sister and is almost ten years younger than me, she's recently turned 20. Not a child but perhaps not a fully mature adult either.

People like all kinds of shite on FB. Don't take it personally.

Everyone has different opinions. You'll encounter that a lot on FB. You can't change people's mind, just ignore it.

I would just ignore.

You're her sister. She probably thinks of you as 'you' not as 'fat' and therefor would never think to associate the video with you in the first place. As long as her behaviour to you is still supportive then put it down to a slightly immature 20 year old not thinking about her actions

I think you're overreacting. People like all kinds of stuff on Facebook. It's not necessarily a true reflection of their actual views.

Wot slammerkins and jonty said.

It's Facebook FFS. The first (and last) bastion of the idiot.

Grow a thicker skin or (ideally) stop looking at the banal shite that people post.

You are being over sensitive probably because, as you say, your issues with food cause you pain already. I agree with Jonty that your sister probably didn't associate the video with you, she probably gave it less than a couple of seconds thought.

You're assuming she has you as the only thing on her mind. Do you really think that it's an intentional dig at you? You're being too oversensitive.

I can see why it upsets you. My SIL is very very obsessed with exercise and constantly posts memes about fat people, or #noexcuses messages about how even mums of five can get athletic bodies if they just try hard enough. It upsets me, but I know that she doesn't have me in mind when she posts this stuff. It's just her particular interest.

If it's the one by that awful Nicole Arbour, I wouldn't take it to heart, she's a nasty piece of work.

Actually having just seen that video I think it's horrible.

I think she speaks to people who have their own issues around food and weight, which manifests itself as a sort of terror at anyone who doesn't buy into that narrow definition of 'healthy'.
