I posted on here before about a friend who I have known for over 35 yrs. she's had a tough time in recent years. We r in similar circumstances both SAHM's both comfortable lives etc. but she is obsessed with Money and how much things cost and is hugely judgmental of people. Plus she rings me every morning when her hub is at work and can spend up to an hour talking at me. It could be pure shite but she barely comes up for air. She has previously just hung up mid call because someone she would rather talk to has phones her land line! She will ask how I am and then keep talking lol. It's like something off a comedy sketch. When she was having a tough time I just let it slide but now I'm fecking sick of her. Sick of her telling me not to buy Asda clothes cps I can afford better. Telling me I should be going to places to be seen. Fuck that, it's just not me! So the last few mornings I have ignored her calls. Now I'm dreading when she catches up with me. aIBU???

Yanbu. I had one of these friends. I avoided her cos clearly not a real friend if they are telling you where to buy clothes and go to be seen. Where does she think you need to go to be seen anyway? Intrigued ?

Bing, our husbands are members of different Golf Clubs. My DH's is a popular local one while her husband goes to an exclusive club in the Country. She thinks I should persuade DH to Join it. She also thinks I should be attending Industry awards with DH (even though other spouses don't go) feck that! Boring.

Of course YANBU ignore her daily shock calls. Maybe answer once a fortnight if you feel you must, and stop the call with a polite "sorry, I'll have to ring off now because XXXX excuse" after whatever length of time is acceptable to you.

You are an adult and you can ignore whatever calls you want.

No YDefinatelyNBU.
She seems very me me me, shallow materialistic and judgemental.
She wants you to buy expensive clothes is she going to give you expensive clothes money.
Where are these people coming from. If I asked my friend how much her clothes cost. I'd expect to get told to MMOB

Has she got an 8k Birkin?

Good god. She sound like a PITA. Don't answer calls. Nothing wrong with buying ASDA clothes, even if you are comfortable. You should be able to buy what you want and wear what you want without criticism.

Thank god! I was starting to feel a little mean spirited. U see the problem is when she was going through her tough time we all let her away with the selfish me meme stuff cod we were trying to be supportive. But it never stopped. And now all our other friends have fallen away and it's just me and her sister now.

Yes that's why I tolerated my friend -tough times, but it almost felt like she became more rude and opiniated the better her life was going. Friendship is supposed to a 2 way thing though isn't it OP. Don't feel bad.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost Mon 17-Aug-15 19:30:55

Well If she's been through a tough time with money.
She should be more understanding than anyone. Not looking down her snout at people whose dresses don't cost 4K a pop.
Bettering yourself is one thing. Forgetting oneself is entirely another.

God that's irritating. No disrespect to sahm at all but is she bored and doesn't have a lot to do? It seems odd that she phones you every morning for an hour !

ProcrastinatingPat Mon 17-Aug-15 19:52:17

Faye, yes she's bored. Ashe has a cleaner and a child minder to give her a break. Her son died suddenly 5 yrs ago and these things were put in place to help her. She just never stopped them.
