This past week has seen, in my opinion an increase in vitriol and negativity toward other members. Is my perception incorrect or have others noticed this?

This week mners have help me deal with my rapist being in court. If fact if it was for mumsnet I wouldn't have been brave enough to report him.

tbh, I haven't noticed an increase in vitriol towards genuine posters. I have noticed what appears to be a slight increase in billy bullshitters and perverts recently though. But these things go in cycles it seems. It's been that way for years. Nice and calm then a breakout of wankers, then it calms down again, then another influx of dirty buggers.

The vast majority of mn is, and always has been, mild and inoffensive.

This week has been all about the hacking and the site being a bit broke.

It's also been about steaming your fanjo, not sure where there is to go after that

It's been about what now? Shock

I have noticed quite a bit of gang mentality, several posters all joining a thread and attacking the OP or a poster. I'm not bothered about me, I have broad shoulders. It has come to my attention on other threads when people asking for advice or general questions and being pounced on. Maybe I am reading a little to much in to it, Thank you for your responses.

Yes I agree OP

I've had problems too Maryz. I've searched by poster and it says no posts but I can see they've posted on a thread I'm looking at.

How long have you been a member?

I think if you join in quiet times and then hit an invasion, or spate of goady twats or a lone knicker sniffer then you notice it.

After a while you see the bigger picture.

I think the responses on the thread by the woman whose DP won't pay for the daughter's food are a bit much. There's a lot of armchair psychology and demands that she LTB instantly, along with snippy comments about why she isn't updating every 2.5 seconds. I think some people need to get a grip.

If you notice it on a thread then report it it call it on the thread.

The last couple of days have been a bit odd I think.

I posted on a thread which I though was ok but it all went Pete Tong.

If you see unpleasant behaviour on a thread, MARTIN, then either tackle it directly on the relevant thread, or report it to MNHQ - starting a thread about a thread (or threads), as you have done here, is considered poor form on MN.

Can I just ask though how you know the difference between people who are just asking a question and those who are looking for a reaction?

I mean that genuinely as this was what happened on the thread I was on - lots of GF accusations when I was merrily blethering away

Report
ghostyslovesheep · 16/08/2015 20:43

also it is silly to refer to 'gang mentality' if more than 2 posters disagree with the OP - that kind of talk is silly - especially if the OP IS being unreasonable

but anyway - yabu - MN has always been like this - just use the report button

There are all some really funny threads and some extremely supportive ones, it really depends where you are looking

The G Paltrow one had me in stitches with the video of the homemade steamer
