I don't think it's a problem (certainly no more than a C of e or secular UK wedding).

What made you think it'd be a problem?

Just don't wear a veil.

Will you have any colour? Black is great once you get to the evening do...but I think you need a bit of colour during the day.

Personally I don't wear black before 6pm, and would have my shoulders covered (I sound like an only spinster!) for a Catholic wedding but I can guarantee you won't be thrown out.

Eeerrrrm I was brought up Catholic and would never wear black to a wedding, it shows disapproval. But I don't know if it's related to Catholicism specifically or not, could just be very old fashioned superstition!!

Have a brightly coloured coat to wear over so should do the trick

My DM wore a pink dress to my uncles wedding, with a black (fake) flower broach thing. My DF was horrified, saying there should be no black at weddings.

I think times have changed. No one will care. I think as long as you have colour in the day time outfit, you will look fab during the evening.

Well I've never heard that it shows disapproval! I have always thought it had funereal overtones for older people. It'll be fine. I wore a black hat and jacket to my sister's wedding with a dress that had black detail and it was really smart.

I've been to a million Catholic weddings and there are always a few black dresses to be seen, usually worn by some of the younger female guests. It's absolutely fine.

Not to too much black or white as a wedding guest, if you wear a bright colour to dilute it it will be OK Smile

It's 2015 . It's fine SmileSmile

DMIL wore black (complete with a black hat) to our wedding so the idea that it indicates disapproval may well be correct.
Can you add a bright scarf or something if it's too late for a full outfit change?

Think I am feeling more confused now but going with the majority ...

No don't do it. Unless you have vibrant accessories. It looks like a disapproval.

I wore a black dress to a wedding in June, no one threw me out and as far as I can gather I wasn't talked about too much. You have a coat to go over it? so you're really just wearing a black dress to a wedding reception - no harm will befall anyone.

All back is a bad idea if you think that any of the wedding party might be superstitious.

I'm Catholic atheist and would wear a black dress but only with colourful cardi or jacket.
